HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
- After Valdosta State took the opening three points of the set, Montevallo responded with five straight points including a kill by Nikol Antova and Brooklyn Hudson (both assisted by Colton Thompson) and an ace from Eliza Tyrrell.
- VSU took the lead with another three-point swing.
- The Falcons went on a 6-0 run including kills from Claire Hayes, Nikol Antova, Danielle Greene and a set kill by Ava Wind. C. Thompson picked up three kills in the run.
- After an ace from Grace Petro, Valdosta State won the next three points to get into the set down 12-15.
- UM responded with a three-point swing of their own including two Colton Thompson aces.
- The Blazers tried to make a late comeback but kills from Antova and Greene ended the threat to give UM the 1-0 advantage.
Set 2
- Montevallo opened with a 4-1 run including a block by Claire Hayes and Brooklyn Hudson, a kill by Hudson and an ace by Eliza Tyrrell.
- Valdosta went on a 6-1 run out of an early timeout. A Maggie McColley kill broke the run.
- The Blazers heated up with an 8-2 run with five kills and three Falcon miscues.
- VSU had another 5-1 run as they ran away with the second set.
- The Blazers had their most kills in a set with 16 while the Falcons had their lowest with seven.
Set 3
- The Falcons started the third set hot with kills by Tyrrell, Antova and Greene. Eliza Tyrrell picked up two assists.
- After another Grace Petro ace, Valdosta State took the next four consecutive points including three kills.
- Montevallo went on a 6-1 run with kills by Aliyah Thompson, Claire Hayes and Brooklyn Hudson Colton Thompson had an ace in the run.
- VSU took the next eight out of 10 points to shorten the gap to 19-22.
- After kills by Greene and Hayes assisted by Blakeley Robbins, Valdosta State took the next four points to bring it within one.
- A Claire Hayes kill lifted the Falcons to a third set win.
Set 4
- Tied 11-11, the Blazers won the next four out of five points with three kills and an ace.
- UM exploded for a 7-1 run including a kill by Antova, an ace from Ava Wind and two aces by Robbins.
- Out of a timeout, Valdosta State took the lead with a 5-0 run.
- The Falcons took advantage of three Blazer errors to tie the set at 22-22, then a Danielle Greene kill gave the Falcons the lead.
- VSU went on a 4-1 run to steal the set from the Falcons.
Set 5
- Montevallo opened with a kill by Hudson set by Wind.
- VSU took the next two points.
- UM went on a 5-1 run with kills by Tyrrell, Hudson and Greene. In the run, Colton Thompson had two assisted and Brooklyn Hudson and Claire Hayes combined for a block.
- The Blazers fought back to make it 8-9.
- Montevallo closed the Blazers out with a 6-1 run including kills by Tyrrell, Hayes and Hudson along with three VSU errors.
