Volleyball's Season Comes to an End in GSC Tournament

CLEVELAND, TN. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team fell to Lee in the first round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 19 in Paul Dana Walker Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Set 1
  • The Flames opened up the match with a 3-0 run including a kill and two aces.
  • After kills by Katie Wilkerson and Danielle Greene, Lee won the next five out of six points.
  • Ellise Hanson and Blakeley Robbins connected for two kills to bring the Falcons to 11-17.
  • Lee ended the first set on a 7-1 run with three kills and four Falcon attack errors.
 
Set 2
  • Montevallo gained the early lead in the second set with kills by Hanson and Wilkerson. Greene and Hanson had a big block in the run.
  • Down 7-9, the Flames won four consecutive points to take a 11-9 lead.
  • The Falcons took the lead back with a dump off kill by Ava Wind and three Lee errors.
  • Katie Wilkerson pounded two kills in a 3-0 run. Colton Thompson contributed an ace and an assist.
  • The Flames took a 22-20 lead late, but Montevallo stormed back by winning the final five out of six points to take the set. In the 5-1 run, Danielle Greene had two kills, Colton Thompson had a kill and Blakeley Robbins had three assists.
 
Set 3
  • Montevallo heated up and played their best set of the match as they jumped out to a 10-4 lead with the help of a 7-0 run. Hayes, Wilkerson, C. Thompson and Hudson had kills. Colton Thompson also had an ace.
  • The Falcons went on a 5-0 run with two kills by Hayes and one from McColley and Wilkerson. Colton Thompson had three assists in the run.
  • Lee closed the gap late with a 6-0 run to make it 17-14 in favor of UM.
  • UM won the set on a block by Danielle Greene and a Lee error.
 
Set 4
  • The Flames came out of the set with a sense of urgency as they took an 8-4 lead with four kills and four UM errors.
  • After two kills and two assists by Claire Hayes and Colton Thompson, Lee went on a 4-0 run.
  • UM won the next four out of five points with a kill by Greene, a Lee error, a block by Greene and Wilkerson and an ace by Robbins.
  • Montevallo tied the set at 17-17, fueled by two aces from Ava Wind.
  • The Flames took the next five points.
  • After UM went on a 3-0 run, Lee responded with a 3-0 run to take the set.
 
Set 5
  • Montevallo and Lee were tied 2-2. UM picked up points with a combined block by Greene and Hanson and had a kill by Eliza Tyrrell.
  • Lee gained a 7-2 lead with a 5-0 run.
  • The Flames kept their foot on the gas and ended the set with a 4-1 run.
