MONTEVALLO, Ala. – For the third time this season, Montevallo women's soccer faces off with No. 6 West Florida, this time for the South Region Championship.
So Far This Season…
Montevallo heads into Sunday's matchup with a 14-5-3 overall record while posting a 9-2-1 record in the GSC action. To start the season, the Falcons posted a 1-1-1 record with a win over Kentucky Wesleyan and a draw with No. 9 Catawba. The Falcons opened conference play with back-to-back wins over Auburn Montgomery and Valdosta State before adding wins over West Alabama and Alabama Huntsville. Montevallo went on to win a 5-0 shutout over Christian Brothers before suffering the first conference loss of the season at the hands of Union on Oct. 5. The Falcons rebounded with consecutive wins over Delta State and Mississippi College on Oct. 9 and Oct. 12 before falling to Lee, 1-0, for the Falcons second loss in conference play. Montevallo bounced back with a 3-0 win over Trevecca Nazarene at home before traveling to No. 8 West Florida for a 1-1 draw on Oct. 23. Montevallo closed the GSC schedule with a 1-0 road win over Spring Hill. In the final two games of the regular season, the Falcons drew with Clayton State 2-2 on the road before falling to No. 2 Columbus State, 5-0, on Nov. 6. The Falcons would earn the No. 2 seed in the GSC Tournament and would advance to Huntsville, Ala. with a 4-3 comeback win over Mississippi College on Nov. 10. Montevallo moved on to its second-consecutive GSC Championship game after knocking off Union, 5-0, in the semifinals. The Falcons would fall in the conference title game, 2-0, to West Florida before moving on to the NCAA Tournament. In the first round of the national tournament, the Falcons would knock out Embry-Riddle, 4-3, in a neutral site bout on Nov. 22. Most recently, the Falcons took down second-seeded Florida Tech, 1-0, to advance to the second region championship game in Montevallo history.
The Falcons boast a potent offense with an average of 2.00 goals per game on an average of 16.0 shots per game with 7.04 shots on goal per contest. Montevallo attack spreads the ball around with 35 assists on Montevallo's 44 total goals while averaging 6.1 corners per game with a total of 135 on the season. Defensively, Montevallo has allowed just 25 goals on the year for an average of 1.14 goals per game with opponents taking 10.0 shots per game with 4.6 shots on goal per game. The Falcons' defense has also posted 10 clean sheets on the season.
Individually, Montevallo's attack is led by
Shadia Valenzuela with 26 points on 11 goals and four assists while
Isabel Dillehay ranks second on the squad with 19 points on eight goals and three assists. Sophomore
Morgan Goehring leads the team in assists with six with adding six goals for a total of 18 points while
Raylene Alcaraz has also added six assists.
Lainey Farabaugh leads the GSC with a total of six game-winning goals while scoring seven goals on the season. In the net,
Emily Hounsell has played every minute in every game with a total of 73 saves while posting a league-high 10 shutouts.

West Florida enters Sunday's meeting with a 16-1-3 overall record with a 10-0-2 mark in conference play after opening the season with a 2-1-1 record in non-conference action with wins over Southwest Minnesota State and No. 21 Lynn with the lone loss of the season coming at the hands of Flagler on Sept. 15. The Argos opened conference play with wins over Mississippi College, Delta State and Spring Hill before drawing with Trevecca Nazarene, 1-1, on Oct. 4. The Argos added back-to-back clean sheets against Lee and Valdosta State before topping AUM, 2-1, on Oct. 13. UWF went on to add shutout wins over Christian Brothers and Union. On Oct. 23, the Falcons tied with the Argos, 1-1, in Pensacola, Fla. To close the regulat season, West Florida added wins over West Alabama and Alabama Huntsville before taking down eighth-seeded Spring Hill, 2-1, in the first round of the GSC Tournament. The Argos moved on to the GSC Championship game with a 3-0 win over Lee before topping the Falcons, 2-0, in the title game on Nov. 17. Most recently, West Florida topped fifth-seeded Nova Southeastern, 2-1, on Nov. 24 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
West Florida averages 2.30 goals per game with 46 total goals while firing 16.6 shots per game with 8.85 shots on goal per game. The Argos have also tallied 33 assists on the season for an average of 1.65 assists per game. The Argos are also averaging 6.95 corners per game while the defense allows just 0.60 goals per game with 12 goals allowed on the season. Argo opponents have recorded just six assists on the season with an average of 6.0 shots per game.
Individually, the Argos are led by Mya Swinton with 28 points on 10 goals and eight assists while Emma Beltz ranks second on the team with 23 points on nine goals and five assists. Ahnalia Layman's six assists are the second most from any Argo while the senior has added three goals for a total of 12 points. In the net, Maciah Lipsey has carried the bulk of the load with 20 starts and seven shutouts on the season with a total of 46 saves on just 115 shots faced while allowing just 12 goals in 2024.
Series History Against West Florida:
Montevallo has historically struggled against the Argos with a 4-28-3 record all-time. In 2024, Montevallo has faced off with the Argos twice. During the regular season, Montevallo battled back in the second half to take a 1-1 draw with a late penalty goal from
Isabel Dillehay. The Falcons earned a second meeting with the Argos after making it to the GSC Championship game on Nov. 17. Montevallo would drop the title game, 2-0, before moving on to the NCAA Tournament. This third meeting is the second time the two sides have met three times in the same season since 2007.
