Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Montevallo baseball blanked West Alabama 12-0 in the first of two midweek matchups against the Tigers scheduled for this season, Wednesday, in Livingston, Alabama.
Montevallo's offense shined with 13 hits and 12 runs as UWA added seven errors. On the mound, the Montevallo pitching staff turned in its first shutout of the season.
The Falcons took first blood, 1-0, in the third when
Connor Crowson drove in
Evan Liddie on a double to center field.
Catcher
Christian Kallaher led off the fourth for UM and reached third on an error by the Tigers, to begin the frame. Shortstop
Ethan Huddleston scored Kallaher on a sacrifice bunt to push the lead to 2-0. Next, Liddie added the second run of the frame with an RBI ground that scored
Daniel Irizarry to give UM a 3-0 advantage.
Seth Gurr threw his fourth scoreless frame in the fourth, sitting down the Tigers in order and preserving the 3-0 lead.
In the fifth, UM was held off the board and Gurr threw his fifth scoreless inning to finish with no runs, two strikeouts and just four hits allowed in five innings of work.
Montevallo plated a single run in the sixth following an error by UWA in a pinch hit at-bat by
Jackson Norris that scored Cunningham.
Following a one-two-three scoreless frame for reliver
Chris Foster in the sixth, Montevallo plated six more runs in the seventh behind a trio of Tiger errors. First baseman
Logan Harbin capped off the six-run inning with a two-RBI double to center to give UM a 10-0 lead.
Montevallo continued its offensive output in the ninth with two more runs.
Jake O'Connell plated Huddleston on a sacrifice fly and a bases-loaded walk from Kallaher made the lead 12-0.
Freshman
Kaden Heatherly made quick work of UWA in the ninth as he struck out the side, securing the 12-0 win.
