MONTEVALLO, Ala. – With one out in the bottom of the ninth senior
Barry Eiseman delivered an RBI walk-off single to lift Montevallo baseball over No. 22/23 Northwood, 4-3.
Before the walk-off from Eiseman,
Ethan Huddleston drew a walk and an error by the Northwood third baseman put
Evan Liddie on base. Next came Eiseman's RBI single, a rocket to left center that missed the outstretched glove of the diving left fielder. Huddleston came around to score on the play, lifting UM to a 4-3 win and extending the win streak to six.
Montevallo got on the board early in the game when
Connor Crowson knocked his first homer of the year, a solo bomb to left center, to put UM ahead 1-0. In the third, an RBI groundout for
Landon Leake scored
Daniel Irizarry and pushed the lead to 2-0.
Northwood grabbed a run back in the fourth with a solo homer and went ahead 3-2 in the fifth on an RBI groundout and pickoff play.
After Northwood took the lead, solid outings from the bullpen in the final four frames held the Timberwolves off the board, giving way to the comeback.
Dawson Hargrove relieved UM starter
Adiel Melendez, who went five innings with five K's, in the sixth and threw two scoreless innings with just one hit, one walk, no runs and two strikeouts.
Jake O'Connell replaced Hargrove in the eighth and went 1.1 innings with no runs, hits, or walks, and one strikeout.
In the bottom of the eighth,
Luke Mitchell off the inning with a single up the middle and scored on an RBI triple from Crowson, tying the game 3-3.
O'Connell pitched one out in the ninth before
Chris Foster entered the game. Foster recorded a strikeout before the inning ended as
Christian Kallaher threw to
Evan Liddie to catch Northwood stealing.
Following Eiseman's walk-off in the ninth, Foster picked up his second win of the year on the mound.
