MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse looks to improve to 3-1 on the season when the Falcons host Mars Hill at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23.
So Far This Season…
With three games gone in the 2024 season, Montevallo holds a 3-1 record after opening the season with a 13-6 loss to No. 9/13 UIndy on Sunday, Feb. 4. The Falcons bounced back with a statement victory over No. 7/15 Florida Southern by a score of 19-18 in an overtime game that proved to be Montevallo's first win over a ranked team in program history. The win over Florida Southern vaulted Montevallo into the national rankings for the first time in Falcon history with a No. 20 ranking in all three polls. In Montevallo's first game as a ranked team, the Falcons blew out Tusculum 26-8 at home on Sunday, Feb. 18.
Through three games, the Falcons rank ninth nationally with an average of 17.00 goals per game while also ranking ninth among national leaders with 27.67 points per game. The Falcons mark of 16.67 saves per game also ranks ninth in the national rankings with Montevallo's 51 ground balls per game third in the nation.
The Falcons are highlighted on the offensive end by
Matthew Boas who averages 4.00 goals per game which ranks second in the PBC and 13
th among the nation's leaders.
Trevayne Hunter leads the league and ranks eighth nationally with 3.00 assists per game. Defensively,
Alex Egorshin's 14.67 saves per game rank first in the conference and 13
th nationally while the sophomore allows 13.50 goals per game.
Gerry York is the PBC's top faceoff specialist with a 68.9-percent win percentage which ranks 12
th nationally.
Scouting Mars Hill: WATCH | LIVE STATS
The Lions enter Friday's contest with a 2-2 record overall after opening the season with a 12-7 loss to Belmont Abbey. Mars Hill then bounced back with a 23-8 win over Virginia State on Feb. 10. MHU dropped its second game of the season to Young Harris, 13-10, on Feb. 14. Most recently, Mars Hill took a 10-7 win over Barton on Saturday, Feb. 17.
The Lions are led on the offensive end by Josh McCallion with nine goals through four games on a total of 15 shots for an average of 2.25 goals per game. The Lions' faceoff specialist AJ Howland ranks seventh in the South Athletic Conference with a win percentage of 56.6 percent. In goal, Steven Smith ranks third in the SAC with an average of 14.25 saves per contest. Mars Hill's George Yanssens takes advantage of the Lions' man-up opportunities with three goals in extra-man situations.

Since 2019, the Falcons and the Lions have faced off four times with the Falcons taking a 24-18 win in the series opener on Feb. 9, 2019. The Falcons then took a 19-12 win early in 2020 before adding an 18-8 win on Feb. 5, 2022. Most recently, Montevallo added an 11-7 win on the road on Feb. 11, 2023.
