MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse heads south for a meeting with Embry-Riddle on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 5 p.m. CT.
So Far This Season…
The Falcons opened the season with a 13-6 loss to No. 9/13 UIndy on Feb. 4. Montevallo then rebounded with its first ranked win in program-history with a 19-18 overtime win over No. 7/15 Florida Southern on Saturday, Feb. 10. The Falcons went on to score the fourth-most goals in a single game with a 26-8 win over Tusculum on Feb. 18. Most recently, Montevallo took a 16-6 win over Mars Hill on Friday, Feb. 23.
The Falcons rank No. 1 in the Peach Belt Conference with an average of 16.75 goals per game while allowing its opponents to score just 11.21 for a league-leading 5.5 scoring margin. Montevallo is also the top assisting team in the league with 10.25 assists per game while scoring 27.00 points per game which also ranks at the top of the conference. The Falcons 26 points per game rank seventh in the nation while an average of 16.50 saves per game rank sixth among national leaders. Montevallo ranks No. 4 nationally in both ground balls (202) and ground balls per game (50.5).
Individually, the Falcons are led on the offensive end by
Matthew Boas who averages 3.25 goals per game which ranks second among conference leaders while
Jackson Klewchuk ranks fifth in the league with 2.75 goals per game. Montevallo's
Trevayne Hunters ranks No. 1 in the conference and No. 9 nationally with 3.00 assists per game. On the defensive side of the ball, Montevallo is led by
Alex Egorshin who tallies 15.00 saves per game which ranks second in the PBC and seventh nationally.
Luke Hennebaul leads the Falcons and the conference with 2.50 caused turnovers per game.
Scouting Embry-Riddle: WATCH | LIVE STATS
Through three games this season, Embry-Riddle holds a 1-2 record with all three games coming against receiving votes teams. To open the season, the Eagles fell to RV Flagler, 12-8, before dropping a road contest, 17-10, at RV Anderson. Most recently, Embry-Riddle took down RV North Greenville 14-9 on Feb. 24.
ERAU ranks seventh in the Sunshine State Conference with an average 10.67 goals per game while allowing its opponents to score 12.79 goals per game. The Eagles' goalkeeping staff ranks at the top of the SSC with an average of 16.67 saves per game. ERAU handles the ball well with a league-low 12.67 turnovers per game.
Offensively, the Eagles are highlighted by Coleman Jacobs who has scored eight goals so far this season and dished out four assists for a team-leading 12 points. Jacobs is followed closely by Pete Abbes who has tallied six goals in 2024. Senior Isaiah Hines leads ERAU with five assists while playing in just two games so far. In goal, Reid Kerr has totaled 42 saves with a 58.3 save percentage in three games played.
Series History Against Embry-Riddle:
Montevallo and Embry-Riddle have met in February in four of the last five seasons with ERAU owning a 3-1 record against the Falcons. The series began with a 11-9 ERAU win on Feb. 14, 2019 before Montevallo picked up its lone win in the series with a 13-6 victory on Feb. 15, 2020. In each of the last two seasons, Montevallo has fallen to ERAU with the most recent meeting being an 18-15 Embry-Riddle win on Feb. 17, 2023.
