Falcons Set to Clash with North Greenville

MONTEVALLO., Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse is set to travel to Tigerville, S.C. for a meeting with North Greenville on Saturday, March 16.
 
So Far This Season…
Montevallo heads into the weekend with a 5-3 overall record after opening the 2024 campaign with a 13-6 loss to No. 9 UIndy back in early February. The Falcons rebounded with its first win over a ranked opponent in program history after taking down No. 7 Florida Southern, 19-19, in an overtime thriller on the road. Montevallo returned home for a dominant 26-8 win over Tusculum before defeating Mars Hill, 16-6, on Feb. 23. In a two-game road trip in Florida, Montevallo fell in back-to-back games with losses to Embry-Riddle, 15-9, and Saint Leo, 22-12. Montevallo then took a road trip to Georgia for a win over former conference foe Young Harris, 15-9, before taking its most recent win with a dominant 25-8 victory over Emmanuel on March 9.
 
The Falcons offense ranks eighth in the nation with an average of 16.00 goals per game while the defense allows just 12.38 per contest for a scoring margin of 3.62. UM's faceoff specialists are among the best in the nation with a third-ranked 67.6 win percentage. Montevallo also wins the loose balls with the nation's second-highest mark of 47.25 ground balls per game. The Falcons' goalkeepers are also at the top of Division II with an average of 15.50 saves per game (seventh).
 
Individually, Montevallo is led by sophomore Matthew Boas with a total of 22 goals on the season while adding seven assists for a total of 29 points which also leads the squad. Veteran attacker Trevayne Hunter has also tallied 29 points so far this season with 12 goals and a team-high 17 assists. The duo is followed closely by senior Jackson Klewchuk with 22 points on 14 goals and eight assists. Montevallo's Gerry York has proven to be the nation's top faceoff man with a 71.4-percent win mark while his 5.12 ground balls per game rank second among conference leaders. Sophomore goalie Alex Egorshin is one of the Peach Belt Conference's top keepers with an average of 14.00 saves per game.

NGU heads into the weekend clash with a 4-4 overall record after opening the season with a 16-11 loss to Catawba on Feb. 3. The Crusaders rebounded with an 11-9 win over No. 20 Anderson on Feb. 10 before adding a 16-8 win over Lincoln Memorial. NGU continued a three-game winning streak with a 13-6 victory over Coker on Feb. 17. Much like the Falcons, NGU fell to Embry-Riddle in Florida, 14-9, before dropping a pair of ranked meetings with No. 19 Lander, 16-14, and No. 3 Limestone, 15-6. Most recently, North Greenville took a 16-15 overtime victory over Lynn on March 9.  
 
The Crusaders' attack averages 12.00 goals per game while the defense allows 12.38 goals per game. NGU is also very strong in faceoffs with a nationally ranked .648 faceoff win percentage which ranks eighth. NGU struggles to handle the ball with an average of 21.88 turnovers per game while the defense forces 7.88 turnovers per game.
 
The Crusaders' attack is led by Christian Cechini with 16 goals and 12 assists for a team-high 28 points. A quartet of Crusaders have scored 11 goals apiece while Hayden Moffat ranks second on the squad with 21 points on 11 goals and 10 assists. Bennett Matsler leads the NGU faceoff corps with a .669 win percentage with a team-high 48 ground balls. NGU's Austin Jones highlights the goalkeepers with 96 saves on a .522 save percentage an average of 12.00 goals against.
 
Series History Against North Greenville:
Montevallo holds a 2-0 record over North Greenville in the short history of the series. The series began with a 13-9 Montevallo win on Feb. 6, 2021 before the Falcons added a 14-14 win over NGU on March 9, 2022 in the most recent meeting.
