Falcons Head to St. Louis For Matchup With Maryville

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse heads to St. Louis, Mo. for the Falcons' fourth ranked matchup of the season at No. 16/17 Maryville on Saturday, March 23.
 
So Far This Season…
Montevallo currently sits at 6-3 on the season with a 4-2 mark on the road heading into yet another road matchup on the weekend. The 2024 campaign began with a 13-6 loss to No. 9 UIndy back on Feb. 4. Montevallo then tallied a historic road victory over No. 7 Florida Southern in a 19-18 overtime effort on Feb. 10. The Falcons returned home for a dominant 26-8 win over Tusculum before adding a 16-6 win over Mars Hill at home. Montevallo dropped back-to-back road games with losses to Embry-Riddle and Saint Leo. Montevallo kicked off its current four-game road trip with a 15-9 win over Young Harris on March 8 before a record-setting 25-8 win over Emmanuel on March 9. Most recently, the Falcons added a 22-9 victory over North Greenville on Saturday, March 16.
 
Montevallo ranks fourth in the nation in scoring with an average of 16.67 goals per game while allowing just 12.00 goals per game to opponents. The Falcons also rank inside the top-10 nationally with a .656 faceoff win percentage (seventh) with the second most ground balls per game at 44.33. Montevallo also ranks fifth among national leaders with an average of 27.22 points per game with an average of 15.67 saves per game.
 
Montevallo's Trevayne Hunter ranks 11th in the nation with 2.44 assists per game to lead the Peach Belt Conference while Gerry York ranks third in the nation with a .689 faceoff win percentage. On the offensive end, sophomore Matthew Boas leads the squad with 21 goals on the season while Jackson Klewchuk follows with 18 goals. Hunter leads the team in assists with 22 on the season for a team-high 37 points. Defensively, Max Citrano highlights the Falcons' back end with 16 caused turnovers and 22 ground balls while Luke Hennebaul sits second on the team with 15 caused turnovers.

With eight games gone in the season, Maryville sits at 6-2 on the season with a pair of wins over ranked teams. The 2024 season began with a 13-5 win over No. 18 Lewis on Feb. 10 before the Saints added a 19-8 victory against Quincy. The first loss of the season for Maryville came at the hands of No. 7 Wingate on Feb. 24 before the Saints defeated Alabama Huntsville 17-5 on March 1. Maryville went on to earn an 11-10 victory over Lynn before adding its second ranked win of the season with a 12-8 defeat of No. 15 Colorado Mesa. The Saints dropped its second game of the season at Westminster before taking a 22-10 win over Dominican University of California in its most recent outing.
 
The Saints' attack scores 14.25 goals per game while the defense allows just 9.00 goals from opponents. Maryville's frontline averages 22.88 points per game on 14.25 goals and 8.63 assists while averaging 16.50 turnovers per game. Defensively, Maryville averages 8.00 caused turnovers per game while grabbing 32.50 ground balls per game.
 
Maryville's Zach Baker leads the squad with 21 goals to go along with a pair of assists for a team second-best 23 points. Justin Simonson leads the Saints with 24 points on the season with 12 goals and 12 assists. Defensively, Maryville is led by 10 caused turnovers from Garrett Rivers while Shea Raeburn leads the team with 45 ground balls on a .576 faceoff win percentage.
 
Series History Against Maryville:
Saturday's meeting will be the fifth time the two sides have met with Maryville holding a 4-0 record over Montevallo. The series began with a 7-6 overtime loss back in 2018 before the Saints took a 16-13 win in 2019. In each of the last two seasons, Montevallo is 0-2 against Maryville with a 12-9 loss on March 19, 2022 with the most recent meeting going to the Saints, 14-6, on March 14, 2023.
