Falcons Set to Host Lander in First PBC Contest

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse begins Peach Belt Conference action with a home meeting against No. 19 Lander on Saturday, March 30.
 
So Far This Season…
The Falcons head into the first weekend of conference play with a 6-4 overall record that began with a 13-6 loss to No. 9 UIndy to back in early February. Montevallo then made history with a 19-18 overtime win over No. 7 Florida Southern for the first ranked win in program-history. The Falcons then returned home for a dominant 26-8 win over Tusculum on Feb. 18 before knocking off Mars Hill, 16-6, at home on Feb. 23. Montevallo then dropped a pair of road contests at Embry-Riddle and Saint Leo in back-to-back meetings. The Falcons went on to grab a 15-9 victory over former PBC foe Young Harris before heading to Emmanuel for a 25-8 win on March 9. Montevallo headed to Tigerville, S.C. for a 22-9 victory over North Greenville before falling in the most recent outing, 14-8, to No. 16 Maryville.
 
The Falcons rank in a tie for eighth with an average of 15.80 goals per game on a .348 shot percentage that ranks 11th in the nation. Montevallo also dishes out 10.30 assists per game for a sixth-ranked 26.10 points per contest. On the defensive end, Montevallo forces an average of 10.40 turnovers per game while tallying 43.10 ground balls per game for the third most in the Div. II. The Falcons are also among the national leaders with a fifth-ranked .657 faceoff win percentage.
 
Montevallo's frontline is highlighted by sophomore attacker Matthew Boas with a team-leading 22 goals to go along with eight assists for a total of 30 points. Trevayne Hunter is the Falcons' leading point-scorer with 38 points on a team-high 23 assists and 15 goals. Senior Gerry York highlights Montevallo's faceoff specialists with a .713 win percentage on a 92-for129 mark at the dot. Defensively, Max Citrano leads Montevallo with 17 caused turnovers while Luke Hennebaul follows closely behind with 15 caused turnovers through ten games.

Lander enters Saturday's contest with a 7-3 overall record as the Falcons become the first PBC opponent for the Bearcats. Lander opened 2024 with a three-game win streak with an opening 13-11 win over Mount Olive. The Bearcats then tallied a 15-6 win over Coker before taking a 22-7 road win over Emmanuel on Feb. 14. Lander dropped its first game of the season to No. 3 Limestone before bouncing back with a 16-11 win over Barton College on the road. The Bearcats went on to defeat North Greenville 16-14, before adding an 18-4 win over Tusculum on March 5. Lander then fell to No. 18 Florida Southern, 15-10, before adding a 13-13 victory over Anderson on March 16. Most recently, Lander fell to Belmont Abbey, 14-10, on March 23.
 
The Bearcats head to Montevallo, Ala. with an average of 13.80 goals per game while adding 8.90 assists per game for a total of 22.70 points per contest. Lander's defense allows just 11.50 goals per game with an average of 11.80 caused turnovers per game. In the net, Lander averages 12.60 saves per game while the Bearcats win .408-percent of faceoffs.
 
Individually, Lander is led by Nolan Oakey with 21 goals and 17 assists for a total of 38 points while Kyle DeCrispino and Zane Dalpe each hold 20 goals on the season. Oakey and DeCrispino lead the Bearcats with 17 assists apiece while Dalpe adds another 16 assists. Oakey also leads the team defensively with 11 caused turnovers with a team-high 27 ground balls. Tyler Carroll highlights the Bearcats on the faceoffs with a .427 win percentage.
 
Series History Against Lander:
Montevallo and Lander have met just four times in the two teams' history with each side holding two wins over the other. The series began with an 18-8 win back on April 3, 2021. In 2022, the two sides met once in the regular season for a 17-11 Lander win before the Falcons defeated Lander 12-8 in the 2022 PBC semifinals. Most recently, Montevallo fell to Lander 14-9 a season ago on April 1, 2023.
