Falcons Set For Two-Game Road Trip in Georgia

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse takes on a two-game road trip in Georgia with a meeting with Young Harris on March 8 before heading to Emmanuel on March 9.
 
So Far This Season…
Montevallo holds a 3-3 record through the first six games of the season after opening the 2024 campaign with a 13-6 loss to No. 9 UIndy on Feb. 4. The Falcons then earned the program's first win over a ranked opponent with a 19-18 overtime win over No. 7 Florida Southern on Feb. 10. Montevallo returned home for a lopsided 26-8 win over Tusculum before topping Mars Hill 16-6 in Alabama. On Feb. 29, Montevallo dropped a meeting with Embry-Riddle, 15-9, before falling to Saint Leo 22-12 in the most recent outing. Montevallo's meeting with Thomas More, originally scheduled for March 5, was canceled.
 
Montevallo ranks first in the Peach Belt conference with an average of 43.33 ground balls per game which also ranks seventh nationally while the goalkeeping corps saves a league-leading average of 16.33 shots per game which ranks fourth nationally. The Falcons' offense scores an average of 14.67 goals per game for the second most in the PBC. Montevallo also leads the conference with a .608 faceoff win percentage and a .877 clearing percentage.
 
Individually, Montevallo's defense is led by Alex Egorshin who holds a league-leading 15.17 saves per game average which ranks fifth among national leaders. Out of the net, Montevallo's Luke Hennebaul highlights the defense with a conference-high 1.83 caused turnovers per game. The Falcons' attack is led by sophomore Matthew Boas who scores an average of 2.33 goals per game while veteran Trevayne Hunter leads the team with 2.33 assists per game. Senior Gerry York is the PBC's top faceoff man with a .658 win percentage and a total of 52 wins through six games.

Young Harris enters Friday afternoon's meeting with a 2-3 record after opening the season with a 20-5 loss to Anderson on Feb. 3. The Mountain Lions picked up the first win this season with a 14-13 win over Tusculum before defeating Mars Hill 13-10 on Feb. 14. YHC then dropped a road contest to Alabama Huntsville, 22-10, on Feb. 18. Most recently, Young Harris fell to Coker, 14-10, on Saturday, March 2.
 
The Falcons former Peach Belt foe scores an average of 10.40 goals per game while dishing out 4.20 assists per game. With an average of 30.40 ground balls per game, the Mountain Lions rank fourth in the Conference Carolinas. Though YHC averages right at 10 saves per game, the Mountain Lions defense allows it opponents to score 15.80 goals per game.
 
Young Harris's attack is highlighted by sophomore Dylan Young who has scored 10 goals through the first five games while Tommy Chriszt has scored 15 points on six goals and nine assists to lead the team. Young is followed closely by Colburn Connely with nine goals on the season. Defensively, Ben Soenen leads the squad with 34 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers.
 
Series History Against Young Harris:
The two sides are former conference foes with Young Harris making the move to the Conference Carolinas during the offseason. In their time together in the PBC, Montevallo holds a 3-1 record over the Mountain Lions with three-consecutive wins from Montevallo. The series opened with a 10-7 YHC win in 2018 before the Falcons took a 15-14 win in 2019. In each of the last two seasons, Montevallo took a 13-6 win back in 2022 before earning a 22-8 victory a season ago.
 
Scouting Emmanuel: WATCH
Emmanuel has struggled in the early part of the season with an 0-6 record after falling to Coker, 7-4, to open the season. The Lions dropped a meeting with Palm Beach Atlantic, 18-10, before falling to No. 19 Lander, 22-7, on Feb. 14. The Lions hosted Lincoln Memorial for a 13-9 loss before falling to Newberry, 20-2, on Feb. 21. Most recently, Emmanuel lost to Shorter, 16-6, on Feb. 28.
 
Emmanuel's offense averages 6.33 goals per game while the defense allows 16.00 goals per game. The Lions goalkeepers save on average of 16.33 shots per game for the top mark in the Conference Carolinas. Emmanuel ranks second in the conference with an average of 10.83 caused turnovers per game.
 
Emmanuel's attack is led by Luke Hildebrandt who has tallied 11 goals so far this season to go along six assists for a team-leading 17 points. Jared Weiss is second on the squad with eight goals and four assists for a total of 12 points. Ryland Laturell leads the team with eight assists while adding five goals for a second-place total of 13 points. The Lions defense is led by Matt Pesek who has tallied 96 saves on 287 shots faced and a .505 save percentage.
 
Series History Against Emmanuel:
Montevallo and Emmanuel have faced off just once in the history of the Falcons with Montevallo taking an 18-5 win over the Lions on March 17, 2018.
