Falcons Continue PBC Action With Trip to Shorter

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse looks to move to 2-0 in conference play with a trip to Rome, Ga. to take on Shorter on Saturday, April 6.
 
So Far This Season…
The Falcons head to Rome, Ga. with a 7-4 overall record and a 1-0 mark in Peach Belt Conference play after beginning the season with a 13-6 loss to No. 9 UIndy. Montevallo made history with a 19-18 overtime win over No. 7 Florida Southern for the first ranked win in program history before taking a dominant 26-8 win over Tusculum on Feb. 18. The Falcons went on to add a 16-6 win over Mars Hill on Feb. 23. Montevallo then dropped back-to-back games on the road with losses to Embry-Riddle and Saint Leo before heading out for a three-game win streak on the road. The Falcons took down former PBC foe Young Harris, 15-9, before grabbing a 25-8 win over Emmanuel. Montevallo then added a 22-9 win over North Greenville on March 16. A week later, Montevallo fell to No. 16 Maryville before knocking off defending PBC champion Lander, 19-16, on March 30.
 
The Falcons frontline scores an average of 16.09 goals per game on a .360 shot percentage that ranks seventh among national leaders. Montevallo adds 10.55 assists per game for a total of 26.64 points per game, both of which rank seventh in the nation. Defensively, Montevallo causes 10.45 turnovers per game with an average of 43.55 ground balls per game (second). The Falcons' goalkeepers rank eighth in Div. II with an average of 15.55 saves per game.
 
Montevallo's offense is highlighted by sophomore attacker Matthew Boas who leads the team with 26 goals to go along with eight assists for a total of 34 points. Veteran attacker Trevayne Hunter leads the team in both assists and points with a total of 27 assists while adding 18 goals for 45 points on the season. On the defensive end, Max Citrano leads Montevallo with 17 caused turnovers while Luke Hennebaul has tallied 16 caused turnovers through 11 games. Defending Freshman of the Year Alex Egorshin leads the Falcons' defense with a .545 save percentage with a 13.38 goals-against average. Gerry York ahs proven to be one of the top faceoff specialists in the nation with a .728 win percentage with 107 faceoff wins in 147 attempts.

Shorter heads into the weekend with an 8-4 overall record with Saturday's contest the first PBC game on the Hawks schedule. The Hawks opened the season with a pair of wins over Oglethorpe and Tennessee Wesleyan before suffering the first loss of the season at the hands of Malone on Feb. 10. Shorter then went on a five-game win streak sparked by a 9-6 win over Centenary followed by road wins at Montreat and Lees-McRae. The Hawks returned home for the final two wins of the stretch with a 16-6 win over Emmanuel before defeating Thomas More, 16-11, on March 2. The Hawks then dropped back-to-back games to Life and Young Harris before picking up a 12-4 win over Carroll on March 16. Most recently, Shorter fell to Mars Hill, 21-8, on Saturday, March 30.
 
The Shorter attack averages 12.08 goals per game on an average of 40.5 shots per game with 9.08 shots on goal. The Hawks add 5.67 assists per game for an average of 17.75 points per game. The Hawks' defense forces 7.00 turnovers per game while grabbing 32.00 ground balls per game. In the net, Shorter has recorded 16.25 saves per game with an 11.01 goals-against average.
 
Shorter's frontline is led by 52 goals from Jaden Sealy while Grant Sanders ranks second on the team with 32 goals while adding a team-high 22 assists for a total of 54 points. On the back end, Ethan Johnson leads the defense with 10 caused turnovers while picking up 31 ground balls. Chase Finley highlights the goalkeeping corps with a .600 save percentage while allowing 10.69 goals per game.
 
Series History Against Shorter:
In a nine-game all-time series, Montevallo is 9-0 against Shorter since 2018. The two sides have met at least twice in three of the five seasons with three meetings taking place during the 2021 season. The Falcons have scored at least 20 goals in all but two matchups with the largest margin of victory at 20 goals coming twice in the history of UM men's lacrosse. A season ago, Montevallo took the first matchup 26-6 before meeting the Hawks in the first round of the PBC tournament for a 26-8 win over Shorter on April 28.
