Falcons Compete in Loaded Field at Argonaut Invitational

PENSACOLA, Fla. – In a field littered with top-ranked teams, the University of Montevallo men's golf team placed 12th at the Argonaut Invitational, Tuesday.
 
The Falcons competed against a field of 15 teams that included five top-10 ranked squads competing and 10 teams in the top 26. All of the competing teams, including Montevallo, ranked between No. 1 and No. 61 in the Clippd.com team rankings.
 
Additionally, the field featured three of the top-six ranked teams in the South Region.
 
Montevallo, who is ranked No. 60 across Division II, placed 12th in the three-round event and finished ahead of No. 61 Valdosta State, No. 21 Shorter, and No. 40 Carson-Newman.
 
The Falcons carded round totals of 296, 285 and 305 for an 886 total. After the team's best round of the event in round two, UM sat in ninth place but dropped three spots in the final round with a combined score of 17-over.
 
UM's second-round score of three-under shot the squad up the leaderboard from 15th to ninth entering the final round.
 
Eric Boutwell and Lucas Albert were each vital to UM's surge in round two as each carded a three-under 69.
 
Harrison Hughston paced the Falcons overall in the event at one-under with round scores of 72, 71 and 71 for a 215 total to finish tied-13th.
 
Boutwell managed a tied-22nd finish in the field of 84 at one-over with rounds of 72, 69 and 76.

Individual Highlights  Team Highlights 
  • Montevallo placed 12th out of 15 in a field loaded with 10 top-26 ranked teams, including five in the top-10.
  • No. 60 Montevallo finished ahead of No. 61 Valdosta State, No. 21 Shorter and No. 40 Carson-Newman.
  • Montevallo was one of five Gulf South Conference teams in the event. UM placed ahead of Valdosta State and Shorter but behind West Florida and Lee.

The regular season has been completed for the Falcons and postseason competition will begin with the Gulf South Conference Championships on April 22-24 in Valdosta, Georgia.
