MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo has been selected to host an NCAA Division II Wrestling Super Regional in 2027, bringing some of the nation's top collegiate wrestlers to campus for one of the sport's most competitive postseason events.

The Super Regional will take place inside Central State Bank Arena, where student-athletes from across the region will compete for spots at the NCAA Division II National Championships. The event will be held on one day during the weekend of Feb. 26-28, 2027.

"We are extremely excited to be able to host super regionals here at Montevallo," said Montevallo head coach Daniel Ownbey. "Having your national qualifier in your home gym is a great experience. I was able to experience it twice in my career and I'm excited for our guys to be able to qualify for Nationals in front of a home crowd."

"It's also a great opportunity for fans of wrestling to see some high-quality competition and see kids achieve their goals of making the national tournament," Ownbey added. "I hope to have an excited crowd and a good atmosphere for the wrestlers so we can continue to host this tournament."

Hosting marks another milestone for the Montevallo wrestling program, which continues to make its mark on the national stage since beginning competition in 2023.
