Montevallo Takes on Host Nova Southeastern in NCAA Tournament Second Round

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's soccer is set to take on second-seeded Nova Southeastern in the second round of the 2025 NCAA South Region Tournament at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

Montevallo earned its way to the second round of the NCAA tournament after taking down third-seeded Lee, 2-0, on Friday afternoon to advance in the tournament as the No. 6 seed in the South Region. UM owns a 13-6-2 overall mark on the season while adding an 8-2-2 record in conference play during the regular season. Montevallo's postseason run began with a 3-2 win over Spring Hill back on Nov. 8 before the Falcons advanced to the Gulf South Conference title game after taking down Mississippi College, 3-1, in the semifinals. The Falcons then fell to West Florida by a score of 1-0 on Nov. 15. Montevallo's second-straight NCAA selection came on Monday, Nov. 17 with the Falcons named as one of three GSC squads to play in the national tournament. The Falcons first outing in the big dance saw Montevallo take down the Lady Flames, 2-0, behind goals from Isabel Dillehay and Morgan Goehring on Nov. 21.
 
 Offensively, Montevallo has scored a total of 37 goals on the season for the third most in the GSC for an average of 1.76 goals per game. On their 37 goals, Montevallo has tallied a total of 29 assists for an average of 1.40 per game while tying Lee for the top assist mark in the league through 21 games. Montevallo fires an average of 14.6 shots per game with 6.8 shots on goal per game for the fourth-highest mark in the GSC. Defensively, the Falcons allow an average of 1.10 goals per game with a total of 23 goals from opponents while allowing 22 assists on the season for 68 points on the season. Montevallo's opponents take an average of 9.0 shots per game with a 4.1 shots on goal average. The Falcons have tallied a total of 10 clean sheets in 2025 with a total of 64 saves on 188 shots faced.
 
The Falcons are led by Lainey Farabaugh who holds a league-high 12 goals on the season for 24 points and four game-winners with one hat trick coming in 2025. Morgan Goehring ranks second on the squad with 20 points on six goals on and a team-high eight assists while freshman Ayla Ertekin also scored six goals on the season while adding a trio of assists for 15 points. In the net, Jolie Cazale and Ciara Duff have split time with Duff leading the goalkeeping corps with 31 saves while Cazale holds 27 on the season. Duff has tallied a total of six shutouts on the year with Cazale taking four.
 
Nova Southeastern enters Sunday's contest with an unbeaten 15-0-4 record as the No. 2 seed in the south region and the No. 10 team in the national rankings. The Sharks' postseason run opened with a 3-1 win over Barry in the first round of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament before topping five-seed Florida Southern in a 1-0 shutout during the SSC semifinals. Nova took the SSC tournament title after taking down third-seeded Florida Tech in a 6-5 win on penalties after regulation and extra time ended in a 1-1 draw. Montevallo will be the Sharks' first NCAA Tournament opponent after receiving a first-round bye as the No. 2 seed in the South Region tournament.
 
Nova Southeastern boasts a powerful offense with a total of 58 goals on the season for an average of 3.05 per game in its 19 games in 2025. The Sharks average 18.5 shots per game with an average of 8.8 shots on goal per game. The Sharks have tallied a total of 44 assists on the season for a total of 160 points for the top mark in the SSC. Defensively, Nova has allowed just 10 goals on the year with opponents taking just 6.4 shots per game and 2.4 shots on goal per game. The Sharks have tallied a total of 10 shutouts on the season with just 34 saves from its two keepers.
 
The Sharks are led by Genesis Hernandez who has recorded 32 points on the season with 13 goals and six assists while Sofia Suarez ranks second on the team with 29 points on 12 goals and five assists. Alexa Bereczki is the Sharks' third offensive weapon with eight goals and four assists for a total of 20 points on the year. In the net, Emilie Schroeder and Gretchen Duttenhofer have split time with Schroeder recording a team-high 18 saves and allowing eight goals while Duttenhofer has posted five shutouts with 16 saves and just two goals allowed.
