MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team defeated West Florida 7-3 on Saturday, to earn the series victory over the Argonauts to open GSC play.
Taylor Lloyd was solid in the circle, pitching her third complete game of the season and her earning her second win of the year. The junior was allowed five hits, three runs, and one walk, while striking out three.
The Falcons got to work early, as
Emma Hawkins earned a one-out single and
Riley Tyree reached on an error in the first inning.
Bentlee Stiner provided a two-RBI double to score Hawkins and Tyree, giving the Falcons an early, 2-0, advantage.
The Argos responded with a run in the bottom half of the first, to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Falcons continued to push in the top of the second, as a
Becca Benton single and an
Emma Faulk walk put two runners on with one out.
Ariana Pinder singled to right center to bring home Benton and extend the lead to 3-1. The Falcons were not done yet, as
Riley Tyree provided a two-RBI double to score Faulk and Pinder, as Montevallo took a, 5-1, lead.
West Florida chipped away at the Montevallo lead, adding a single run in the second and fourth innings, cutting the deficit to, 5-3.
The Falcons added insurance in the top of the seventh as
Emma Faulk hit a two-RBI single to score
Becca Benton and
Kennedy Hussey.
Taylor Lloyd shut the door in the bottom of the seventh to secure the 7-3 victory for Montevallo.
