MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team dropped the series finale against Mississippi College on Saturday, falling 5-4 at Softball Stadium at Orr Park.
The Falcons struck first in the bottom of the second inning, as
Becca Benton earned a leadoff double and
Skylar Johnson hit a two-out RBI-double to score Johnson and put the Falcons ahead 1-0.
Montevallo looked to continue to push in the bottom of the third, as
Bentlee Stiner opened the inning with a leadoff single. After a pair of outs,
Riley Tyree provided a two-out RBI-single to score Stiner and put the Falcons up 2-0.
Becca Benton followed that up with a two-run home run, putting the Falcons ahead 4-0.
Mississippi College found its way on the board in the top of the fifth, plating a pair runs to cut the deficit in half, 4-2.
Riley Tyree earned a leadoff triple in the bottom of the sixth, but the Falcons were unable to capitalize, keeping the score differential at two runs.
The Choctaws looked to rally in the top of the seventh, opening the inning with three consecutive singles to load the bases with no outs. The Chargers earned a two-RBI double and a sacrifice fly to score three runs and take a, 5-4, lead.
The Falcons were unable to respond in the bottom of the seventh, as the Chargers took home the 5-4 victory.
