Falcons Face No. 9 UIndy on the Road

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse heads north for a meeting with No. 9 Indianapolis on Saturday, March 1.
 
So Far This Season…
The Falcons head to Indiana with a 4-2 record after opening the season in dominant fashion with a 24-15 win over Emmanuel on Feb. 1. The Falcons added a pair of impressive road wins with a 13-5 victory at Mars Hill and a 27-4 rout of Emory & Henry on Feb. 7. Montevallo suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of receiving votes Saint Leo in a 14-13 defeat at home on Thursday, Feb. 13. Montevallo rebounded with a 19-13 home win over Thomas More on Fab. 15. Most recently, the Falcons fell in heartbreaking fashion in a 7-6 overtime loss on the road at Belmont Abbey on Saturday, Feb. 22.
 
Montevallo leads the Peach Belt Conference with an average of 17.00 goals per game while adding a league-leading 11.83 assists per game for a total of 28.83 points per game. The Falcons attack also leads the league with an average of 49.00 shots per game and 33.00 shots on goal per game. Defensively, the Falcons allow just 10.13 goals per game with an average of 14.00 saves per game while forcing 12.00 caused turnover and picking up a league-leading 47.33 ground balls per game.
 
Individually, the Falcons are led by Matthew Boas with 27 points on 16 goals, including a pair of game winners, and 11 assists while John Spaans ranks second with 10 goals on 27 shots with 16 shots on goal. James Trainer highlights the Falcons' defense with a team-high eight caused turnovers while picking up 10 ground balls. Nolan Ross and Collin Schuster are tied for second with each adding seven caused turnovers. Brandon Shaffner has been one of the nations' top faceoff specialists with a .718 win percentage which ranks 10th nationally.

UIndy enters Saturday's meeting with a 3-2 record with three ranked teams on the early schedule for the Greyhounds. UIndy opened the season with a 19-4 victory over Davenport on Feb. 1 before falling to No. 4 Limestone, 11-6, on Friday, Feb. 7. The Greyhounds rebounded with a 14-6 win over 14th-ranked Newberry on Feb. 9 before adding a 13-3 win over Lake Erie on Feb. 15. Most recently, UIndy fell to No. 4 Lenoir-Rhyne, 15-13, on Saturday, Feb. 22.
 
UIndy averages 19.80 points per game on 13.00 goals per outing and 6.80 assists per game. The Greyhounds average 46.00 shots per game with 27.00 shots on goal per game for a .283 shooting percentage. UIndy leads the Great Lakes Valley Conference with just 7.80 goals allowed per game with a .552 save percentage on 9.60 saves per game. The Greyhounds also average 35.00 ground balls per game while forcing 9.00 caused turnovers per game.
 
Triston Schaffer highlight UIndy's attack with a team-high 16 goals while adding six assists for another team-leading 22 points. Nathan Lam ranks second on the squad with 12 goals while adding a team-high seven assists for 19 total points. Defensively, Mitchell Carik leads the Greyhounds with eight caused turnovers while Seamus Faulkner and Alex Score rank second with seven caused turnovers each. Jonah Koehler leads UIndy's faceoff group with a 44-71 mark on the season for a .620 win percentage. AJ Preachuk has started all five games in goal and allowed just 7.54 goals per game with a total of 48 saves and a .565 save percentage.

Since the series began on March 31, 2018, Montevallo is 0-6 against UIndy with an 0-3 mark both at home and on the road. Montevallo's closest finish with the Greyhounds came on April 6, 2019, when the Falcons fell 14-12 at home. Most recently, Montevallo fell to UIndy, 13-6, on a cold Feb. 4, 2024, in Montevallo, Ala.
