MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse looks for its second top ten victory of the season when the Falcons take on No. 6 Flagler for the annual Sea of Purple game on Saturday, April 12 at 12 p.m.
So Far This Season…
Montevallo enters the weekend with a 9-4 overall record and an 0-1 mark in Peach Belt Conference play. The Falcons opened the season with a 24-15 home win over Emmanuel on Feb. 1 before topping Mars Hill and Emory & Henry in back-to-back road victories. Montevallo suffered its first loss of the season to Saint Leo in a 14-13 loss at home. The Falcons rebounded with a 19-13 win over Thomas More on Feb. 15 before dropping an overtime game to Belmont Abbey, 7-6. Montevallo picked up just its second top ten win in program history with a 13-12 win over No. 9 UIndy on the road on March 1. The Falcons opened a three-game homestand with a 12-7 win over North Greenville before topping William Jewell, 22-11. Montevallo closed the homestand with its second overtime loss of the season against No. 12 Maryville on March 22. The Falcons added wins over Malone and Walsh to close the nonconference slate. Most recently, Montevallo fell to Lander, 16-13, on the road to open PBC play.
Montevallo boasts the top offense in the PBC with an average of 25.85 points per game on 16.08 goals and 9.77 assists per game. The Falcons also lead the league with 47.08 shots per game and 30.54 shots on goal for a .342 shooting percentage. The Falcons add another league high with 46.31 ground balls per game while ranking third nationally with a .685 faceoff win percentage. Defensively, Montevallo adds 11.15 caused turnovers per game while allowing just 10.09 goals against per game on a league-leading .611 save percentage with an average of 15.62 saves per game.
Matthew Boas leads the Peach Belt with 41 goals on the season for an average of 3.15 per game while adding 16 assists for a team-high 57 points.
John Spaans ranks second on the team with 32 points on 19 goals and 13 assists while
Caden Chalut ranks second on the team with 20 goals. Defensively,
Nolan Ross leads the team with 21 caused turnovers with 19 coming from
James Trainer. In the net,
Alex Egorshin averages just 10.10 goals allowed on a total of 187 saves and a .621 save percentage.
Brandon Shaffner is one of Div. II's top faceoff specialists with a fourth-ranked win percentage of .708 on a 207-for-291 mark.

The No. 6 Saints head to Montevallo, Ala. with an 11-1 record and a 1-0 record in league play after opening the season with a 13-8 win over Embry-Riddle on Feb. 1. Flagler's lone loss of the season came on Feb. 8 with a 16-8 loss to No. 2 Tampa. Flagler rebounded with a 10-5 home win over Florida Tech before topping No. 16 Florida Southern, 9-8, on the road in overtime. The Saints added another pair of ranked wins with a 17-10 win over No. 20 Westminster before topping No. 7 Rollins on the road on March 1. Flagler's attack averages 17.92 points per game on 11.92 goals and 6.00 assists per game while boasting the top defense in the league with just 8.70 goals allowed per game. The Saints lead the PBC with an average of 12.58 caused turnovers per game while controlling possession with just 16.00 turnovers. The Saints struggle on faceoffs with just a .398 win percentage for the lowest mark in the conference.
Flagler is led by Trace McDonald with a total of 50 points on 21 goals and a league-leading 29 assists while Ben Nyberg also owns 21 goals on the season. Defensively, Ty Scheckenbach leads the team with 28 caused turnovers while adding 34 ground balls with Brandon Grusholt second on the team with 15 caused turnovers. In the net, Wade Lamon and Josh Stevens have split the load with 50 and 54 saves, respectively.
Series History Against Flagler:
Historically, Flagler leads the series with a 4-1 record against Montevallo since the initial meeting on April 30, 2022. In the series-opener, the Falcons picked up the lone UM win with an 18-8 victory at home in 2022. The Saints picked up three-consecutive home wins over Montevallo including a 14-13 overtime loss on April 27, 2024. Most recently, the Falcons fell to Flagler, 10-6, in the first round of the 2024 Peach Belt Championship in just the second game played in Montevallo, Ala.
