Women's Golf Ready for 2025 GSC Championship

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's golf heads to Tunica, Miss. for the final tournament of the season in the 2025 Gulf South Conference Men's Golf Championship.

CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

The 2025 edition of the GSC Championship is hosted by Tunica National Golf Club, a 7,204 yard, 18-hole, par 72 course. The 2025 champions will be named after the three-round, stroke play event starting on Thursday, April 16 and completing on Saturday, April 19.

Over the course of the 2024-25 season, the Falcons have competed in eight events with a total of 21 rounds while posting an average score of 306.1 as the No. 20 team in the Clippd.com South Region rankings. Montevallo's season has featured a pair of top three finishes highlighted by Montevallo's team win at the Full Moon Invitational. The Falcons also added top ten finishes on four other occasions with the Falcons' fourth-place finish at the Space Coast Intercollegiate that marked UM's highest finish of the spring.

The Falcons have matched up against some strong competition this season with at least one other ranked squad in each of the last six tournaments. Montevallo's trip to Lakeland, Fla. featured the most ranked teams on the schedule with 17 of the 18 teams at the event nationally ranked, including a ranked West Florida squad. Of the eight teams to appear at the GSC Championship, No. 11 Lee, No. 24 UWF, and No. 47 MC are the top three nationally ranked teams, excluding the No. 40 Falcons.

Montevallo will look to stay at the top of the conference leaderboard as it has in each of the last two seasons. In 2023, the Falcons took home a second-place finish in Mobile, Ala. before falling one spot in the 2024 edition for a third place mark a season ago. Last season, Montevallo's third place finish featured a combined 63-over after 54 holes at Kinderlou Forrest Golf Club.

The Falcons head to northwest Mississippi with a team of six individuals with Meredith Bennett, Fabiola DeCespedes, Paulina Bermejo, Kate Cost, Angelina Oliveri and Francesca DeRoover making the trip. Montevallo's 2025 championship squad features a wealth of experience with a pair of seniors and a pair of juniors making the trip. As a new rule in the GSC championships beginning last season, teams are allowed to bring a sixth player as an alternate if one of the starting five are not able to compete at the start of the following round. The extra player would not assume the score of the player they replaced but would enter as a new player as team scores are calculated round-by-round. Only players who competed in all three rounds are eligible for the individual title and awards.

The Falcons are led by senior Meredith Bennett who is ranked No. 77 in the Clippd.com South Region rankings with a 75.4 adjusted scoring average over 21 rounds through eight tournaments. Bennett's top finish of the season came in the form of an individual win at the Full Moon Invitational while adding a 13th place finish at the Flagler Fall Slam back in October. Bennett's top round of the season featured a four-under 68 in the first round of the LeeAnn Noble Classic.

Freshman Kate Cost's inaugural collegiate season featured the second-lowest scoring average on the team at 76.7 in her first 21 rounds at Montevallo. Cost's top finish of the season came at the Full Moon Invitational when the freshman finished sixth with a score of seven-over. The freshman's top round of the season saw Cost card a one-under 71 in the first round of the Lady Moc Classic.
