MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's tennis team heads to Montgomery, Ala. to face off against third-seeded Lee in the first round of the GSC Tournament on Thursday.
So Far This Season…
Montevallo picked up the No. 6 seed in the GSC Tournament, holding an overall record of 6-9 and a 3-5 mark in GSC play.
After dropping its first two contests of the season to Valdosta State and West Florida, the Falcons earned its first victory of the year against West Alabama 4-3. Montevallo followed that up splitting a pair of contests in Columbus, Ga., defeating Georgia College and falling to Columbus State. After falling to Spring Hill, the Falcons went on a four-game win streak, taking down Young Harris, Delta State, Christian Brothers, and North Greenville. Montevallo has dropped its last five regular season contests to Francis Marion, Augusta, Lee, Mississippi College, and Auburn Montgomery.
Guilherme Gracioli has posted the best singles record, going 10-4 on the season. Gracioli is 5-2 at the No. 2 spot.
Ryota Nakajima is 5-5 in singles play, while
Paul Sobich has earned four wins at the No. 1 spot this year.
Nakajima and Gracioli have been solid in doubles play, as the duo posts a 4-3 record.
Scouting Lee
Lee holds an overall record of 13-2 and a 6-2 mark in conference play. The Flames enter the postseason on a seven-game win streak. Lee's only losses have come against West Florida and Valdosta State.
The Falcons and Flames faced off at the beginning of April, with Lee earning a 5-2 win in Montevallo. The Falcons captured the doubles point, as
Dylan Kamel and
Luiz Brandao won at the No. 1 spot and
Ryota Nakajima and
Guilherme Gracioli won at the No. 3 spot. Gracioli captured the lone singles victory of the day for the Falcons.
