MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse heads into the postseason with a matchup against second-seeded Flagler in the first round of the 2025 Peach Belt Conference Tournament
So Far This Season…
Montevallo claimed the No. 3 seed at the PBC Championship after closing the regular season with a 10-5 overall record and a 1-2 mark in conference play. The Falcons opened the season with a 24-15 win over Emmanuel on Feb. 1 before topping Mars Hill and Emory & Henry in back-to-back road contests to start the season 3-0. UM's first loss of the season came on Feb. 13 with a 14-13 loss to Saint Leo. The Falcons rebounded with a 19-13 home win over Thomas More on Feb. 15. UM then dropped a road overtime game to Belmont Abbey on Feb. 22. The Falcons tallied just the second win over a top 10 team after defeating No. 9 UIndy, 13-12, on the road on March 1. Montevallo returned home for a pair of wins over North Greenville and William Jewell before falling to No. 12 Maryville, 12-11, on March 22. Montevallo bounced back with a dominant 25-8 road win over Malone before closing the nonconference slate with an 11-5 win over Walsh. The Falcons dropped the conference opener to Lander, 16-13, on April 5 before falling to No. 6 Flagler on April 12. Most recently, Montevallo closed the regular season with a 16-15 overtime win over Alabama Huntsville.
The Falcons boast the most potent offense in the PBC with an average of 25.20 points per game on 15.60 goals and 9.60 assists per game. UM's explosive offense tallied a .341 shots percentage in the regular season while leading the league with four man-down goals. At the dot, the Falcons are the top team in the league with a .668 faceoff win percentage while adding another league best 45.40 ground balls per game. Defensively, Montevallo forces 11.33 caused turnovers per game while allowing just 10.83 goals against with a .598 save percentage and an average of 15.87 saves per game.
Matthew Boas continues to lead the PBC in goals with a total of 50 on the season while adding 18 assists for a total of 68 points.
John Spaans ranks second on the squad with 38 points on 22 goals and 16 assists while
Caden Chalut's 24 goals are the second most on the team.
James Trainer leads the backline with a total of 26 caused turnovers on the season while picking up 33 ground balls.
Brandon Shaffner is the top faceoff man in the PBC with a .701 win percentage which ranks fifth nationally while setting a Montevallo record with 131 ground balls. In the net,
Alex Egorshin allows just 10.92 goals per game while posting a .605 save percentage with a total of 222 saves.

The Saints enter the conference tournament with an 12-2 record and a 2-1 record in league play after opening the season with a 13-8 win over Embry-Riddle on Feb. 1. Flagler's lone loss of the season came on Feb. 8 with a 16-8 loss to No. 2 Tampa. Flagler rebounded with a 10-5 home win over Florida Tech before topping No. 16 Florida Southern, 9-8, on the road in overtime. The Saints added another pair of ranked wins with a 17-10 win over No. 20 Westminster before topping No. 7 Rollins on the road on March 1. Flagler picked up a 14-8 win over Barton on March 4 before another overtime win with an 8-7 victory over Saint Leo on March 8. The Saints went on to top Palm Beach Atlantic and Lynn before closing the nonconference schedule with a 7-6 win over No. 14 Molloy on March 21. Flagler opened conference play with a 17-11 home win over Alabama Huntsville on April 5 before topping the Falcons, 16-9, on April 12. Flagler closed the season with 14-9 a loss to Lander on April 19.
Flagler's attack averages 18.50 points per game on an average of 12.00 goals and 6.50 assists. Flagler's 12.00 goals come on an average of 40.86 shots per game with a 25.07 shots on goal average. The Saints scoop an average of 29.36 ground balls per game while posting a .399 faceoff win percentage. Defensively, Flagler boasts the top marks in the league with a 12.36 caused turnover average while allowing just 9.10 goals per game on a .484 save percentage.
Trace MacDonald leads Flagler's attack with 56 points on 23 goals and 33 assists while adding four game-winning goals on the season. Ben Nyberg ranks second on the squad with 30 points on 26 goals and 4 assists. Defensively, Ty Scheckenbach leads the team with 31 caused turnovers while adding 36 ground balls. Matt Mitrega leads the faceoff corps with a .413 win percentage with a total of 29 ground balls on the season.
Series History Against Flagler:
Historically, Flagler leads the series with a 4-1 record against Montevallo since the initial meeting on April 30, 2022. In the series-opener, the Falcons picked up the lone UM win with an 18-8 victory at home in 2022. The Saints picked up three-consecutive home wins over Montevallo including a 14-13 overtime loss on April 27, 2024. Most recently, Montevallo dropped the regular season meeting, 16-9, on April 12, 2025.
