MANHEIM, Pa. - In the second season in program history, the University of Montevallo wrestling team has been ranked No. 22 by the National Wrestling Coaches Association in the Top-25 Scholar All-American Team rankings.
Montevallo's 3.246 cumulative grade point average is the 22nd best in Division II wrestling for the 2024-25 season.
In addition to the team ranking, the team had seven individual Scholar All-Americans including
Austin Buird,
Willie Cox,
Nick Dempsey,
Carson Freeman,
Jeffery Tubbs,
Dalton Wainwright and
Rhett Walters.Â
Montevallo is one of three Conference Carolinas schools listed in the top 25, ranking behind No. 3 Newberry and No. 18 Mount Olive.
For a student-athlete to be nominated to the Division II Scholar All-American Team, he must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, with that benchmark at 3.25 for those who qualified for the 2024 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships and a 3.0 for those who were All-Americans at the 2024Â Nationals. Wrestlers must have competed in four dates of competition.
