OXFORD, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team closed action in the Gulf South Conference Tournament on Friday, falling to fourth-seeded Alabama Huntsville 5-1.
Rachel Whiddon earned the start in the circle and went 4.1 innings, while
Kinsley Byrd pitched the remaining 2.2 innings.
Montevallo got on the board first, as
Becca Benton fired a triple down the right field line to score
Molly Pendley who reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning.
UAH responded in the top of the second inning with a three-spot to pull ahead, 3-1.
The Falcons looked to respond in the bottom half of the inning as
Skylar Johnson reached on an error, but she was ultimately stranded at third base.
The Chargers added to its lead, scoring a run apiece in the fifth and sixth innings to extend its advantage to 5-1.
Pendley reached base for the third time of the day in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Falcons were unable to move her into scoring position.
Montevallo went down in order in the bottom of the seventh, as UAH secured the 5-1 victory on day three of the GSC Tournament.
