MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo Freshman Ellie Scharlow has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week following a strong three-match stretch for the Falcons, the league announced Tuesday.

Scharlow played in all 13 sets across Montevallo's matches against Shorter, West Alabama and Mississippi Christian, totaling 22 kills, 41 digs, seven service aces and 30.5 points.

The freshman opened the week with a strong all-around performance against Shorter on Sept. 29. Scharlow recorded nine kills on a .217 hitting percentage, while adding 14 digs, two service aces and two blocks. She finished the four-set match with 12.5 points.

Against West Alabama on Oct. 2, Scharlow tallied seven kills and 18 digs across five sets while adding a service ace.

She closed the week on Oct. 3 with six kills, nine digs and four service aces, accounting for 10 points in four sets.

The honor marks Scharlow's first GSC Freshman of the Week award of the season.
