COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Montevallo softball team finished its weekend at the Cougar-Hurricane Classic with a perfect 4-0 mark, as the Falcons earned wins over Converse (13-6) and Mount Olive (6-0) on Saturday.
GAME ONE
Four Falcon pitchers saw time in the circle, as Berkley Mooney earned the start in the circle and picked up her second win.
Becca Benton looked to get things started for the Falcons, hitting a leadoff double in the top of the second inning. Benton later advanced to third on a wild pitch and ultimately scored on a throwing error to put the first run on the board.
After back-to-back outs to start the top of the third inning, Riley Tyree doubled to left center. Benton followed that up with her sixth homer of the year to give the Falcons a 3-0 advantage.
Converse got on the board in the bottom half of the third, plating two runs to cut the Montevallo lead to 3-2.
The Falcons got a run back in the top of the fourth, as Emma Hawkins hit an RBI-single to score Laney Williams. The Valkryies responded once again in the bottom half of the inning with a run to trim the Montevallo lead to one run, 4-3.
The Falcons looked to extend its lead back to multiple runs, as Ariana Pinder got things started in the top of the fifth with a one-out walk. Benton hit her second homer of the game and seventh of the season to stretch the lead back out to three runs, 6-3.
Montevallo extended its lead in the top of the sixth, as Bentlee Stiner hit her fifth homer of the season to drive in three runs, putting Montevallo ahead, 9-3.
The Falcons continued to add runs, as Emma Faulk hit a two-run homer and Pinder added a two-run double to put Montevallo ahead, 13-6.
The Valkryies looked to rally in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases with one out, but Mya Young closed the door, recording back-to-back outs via a strikeout and groundout to preserve the Montevallo, 13-6, win.

GAME TWO
Taylor Lloyd was stellar in the circle in game two, pitching a complete game shutout. The senior allowed four hits, while striking out eight in seven innings of work.
Montevallo looked to get on board first in game two of the day, as Becca Benton walked, and Madison Fargo singled in the top of the second. Taylor Rogers brought in those runs, as she hit a three-run homer to give the Falcons an early 3-0 advantage.
The Falcons added to its lead in the top of the fifth, as Benton hit an RBI-single to score Emma Hawkins and Madison Fargo hit an RBI-single to score Bentlee Stiner, putting Montevallo ahead, 5-0.
The Falcons added one more run in the top of the sixth, as Pinder hit a sac-fly to score Hawkins, stretching the lead out to 6-0.
Lloyd preserved the shut down the Trojans for the final two innings, preserve the Montevallo, 6-0, victory.
