DECATUR, Miss. – The Montevallo softball team opened Gulf South Conference play on Friday, as the Falcons dropped a pair of one-run contests at Mississippi College.

GAME ONE

Taylor Lloyd pitched her sixth complete game of the season, going all 7.1 innings in game one.

Montevallo struck first, as Lillie Piersol hit an RBI-groundout to score Makayla Peters in the top of the second inning.

The Choctaws scored its first run in the bottom of the third, tying the game at one run apiece.

The Falcons responded in the top of the fourth, as Becca Benton led the inning with a solo home run, to put Montevallo back in front, 2-1. The Choctaws followed that up with a run in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game back up at two runs apiece.

Both teams were held scoreless through the next three innings, as the first game of the night went into extra innings.

The Falcons went 1-2-3 in the top of the eighth, giving the Choctaws a chance to walk it off in the bottom half of the inning. MC came through with an RBI-double to secure the, 3-2, walk-off victory in extra innings.

GAME TWO

Kinsley Byrd pitched her second complete game of the season, going all six innings in game two.

Taylor Rogers looked to get things started for Montevallo, as she hit a leadoff single in the top of the third inning. The freshman stole second and ultimately advanced to third on a groundout and scored on an error to put the Falcons ahead 1-0. The Choctaws responded in the bottom half of the inning, plating three runs to take a, 3-1, advantage.

The Falcons tied things up in the top of the fourth, as Lillie Piersol hit an RBI-single to score Kiera Olson and Rogers hit an RBI-groundout to score Madison Fargo.

Montevallo pulled ahead in the top of the fifth, as Becca Benton hit an RBI-double to score Riley Tyree. Benton stole third and Emma Faulk brought her home with an RBI-single to put the Falcons in front, 5-3.

The Choctaws put up another three-spot in the bottom of the sixth to ultimately take home a, 6-5, victory.
