MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team earned a, 3-1, victory over Trevecca Nazarene in its series opener on Friday.
Montevallo looked to strike first in the bottom of the third inning, as Taylor Rogers hit a one-out triple to put a runner in scoring position. Emma Hawkins followed that up with an RBI-single to score Rogers and put the Falcons on the board. Bentlee Stiner walked, and Benton hit a two-run double to put the Falcons in front, 3-0.
The Trojans responded with a solo homer in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to, 3-1.
Trevecca threatened again in the top of the sixth, putting a pair of runners on base with two outs, but a huge strikeout from Lloyd kept the Trojans off the board.
Lloyd sat the Trojans down in order in the top of the seventh to secure the Montevallo, 3-1, victory.
