MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team secured its first Gulf South Conference series victory after splitting its Saturday doubleheader with Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday.
GAME ONE
Berkley Mooney and Kinsley Byrd were solid in the circle, as the duo combined to allow no earned runs in six innings of work. Mooney earned the start and went 3.1 innings, while Byrd pitched the final 2.2 innings and earned her third win of the year.
Montevallo looked to strike first in the bottom of the third, as Emma Hawkins hit a leadoff single. Becca Benton stepped up to the plate two batters later and brought her home with an RBI-double to put the Falcons in front, 1-0.
The Trojans responded in the top of the fourth, plating two runs to take a, 2-1, advantage.
Montevallo looked to field a response of its own, as Riley Tyree and Makayla Peters reached base to open the bottom of the fourth. A Laney Williams sac-fly and an Emma Faulk RBI-double, put the Falcons back ahead, 3-2. The Falcons continued to push in the inning, as Bentlee Stiner hit a two-run double and Benton added a two-run single to stretch the Montevallo lead out to, 7-2.
Trevecca threatened in the top of the sixth, loading the bases, but a fielder's choice kept the Trojans off the board.
Montevallo secured a run-rule victory in the bottom of the sixth, as Benton hit an RBI-single, while Peters and Williams drew back-to-back RBI-walks, to seal the 10-2 win.

GAME TWO
Taylor Lloyd earned the start in the circle and went six innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out three.
The Falcons struck first once again in game two, as Lillie Piersol doubled to left center and Taylor Rogers brought her home with an RBI-single to put the Falcons in front 1-0.
Montevallo looked to add to its lead in the bottom of the fourth, loading the bases with one out, but a strikeout and groundout ended the inning.
The Trojans scored four runs in the fifth and sixth innings, taking a, 4-1, advantage.
The Falcons couldn't get anything going in the last two innings, as Trevecca ultimately took home the, 4-1, victory in the series finale.
