Falcons Set to Open PBC Play Against Virginia State

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse is set to host Virginia State to open the Peach Belt Conference schedule on Saturday, March 28 at 11 a.m.

Montevallo heads into the weekend with a 4-7 overall record after topping Emmanuel, 21-6, to open the season back on Jan. 30. The Falcons then dropped back-to-back games on the road at Embry-Riddle and No. 19 Saint Leo before picking up a 12-8 road win over No. 20 North Greenville on Feb. 14. Montevallo's home opener came on Feb. 18 and featured an 18-10 win over Mars Hill before hosting Belmont Abbey in an 8-7 loss. The Falcons then fell to No. 6 Anderson, 22-16, at home before topping Young Harris, 15-5, on March 7. Montevallo dropped a pair of outings against No. 4 Tampa and Palm Beach Atlantic on the road before falling to No. 7 Maryville, 9-8, on March 21.
 
Through 11 games, Montevallo averages 11.55 goals per game while posting an average of 7.36 assists per game for 18.91 points. The Falcons have also added an average of 37.82 ground balls per game while posting a .817 clearing percentage to go along with a .508 faceoff win percentage. Defensively, Montevallo allows just 12.00 goals per game while leading the nation with 18.18 saves per game while adding an average of 12.00 caused turnovers per game.
 
Matthew Boas leads Montevallo with a total of 48 points on the season with 28 goals and 20 assists while posting three game-winning goals, 15 ground balls and four caused turnvoers. Lucas Mullen ranks second on the squad with 42 points on 21 goals and 21 assists while picking up 15 ground balls and four caused turnovers. Collin Schuster leads the defense with 16 caused turnovers while adding 20 ground balls. In goal, Alex Egorshin holds an 11.65 goals against average while posting a .617 save percentage with a total of 195 saves on the season.
 
Virginia State heads into Saturday's matchup with a 1-6 overall record after falling in the season opener to Barton, 18-2, on Feb. 4. The Trojans then topped Davis and Elkins, 14-6, on Feb. 12 for the lone win of the season. Virginia State dropped a home meeting with Tusculum on Feb. 28 before falling to Assumption, 21-5, on March 7. The Tojans then dropped back-to-back meetings against Chowan and St. Thomas Aquinas on March 11 and 14, respectively before opening PBC action with a loss on the road at Lander on March 21.
 
The Trojans average a total of 9.14 points per game on 6.00 goals and 3.14 assists while picking up an average of 19.86 ground balls per game. On the clear, Virginia State has posted a .779 clearing percentage while adding a .239 faceoff win percentage. Defensively, the Trojans average 16.00 saves per game while allowing 17.29 goals per game. Virginia State adds an average of 6.14 caused turnovers per game.
 
Andre Bigham leads the team with 15 points on 12 goals and three assists while posting a total of five man-up goals with 14 ground balls. Hayden Morrison ranks second on the team with 10 points on six goals and four assists while picking up four ground balls. Christian Watts leads with six caused turnovers while Allan Starks and Darius Reeder each own five on the season. In the net, Jace Wiggins has posted a .490 save percentage with a total of 101 saves on the season for a 18.05 goals against average.
