Falcons Host Young Harris to Close Homestand

 MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse caps a four-game homestand on Saturday, March 7 at 12 p.m. against Young Harris.

Montevallo heads into the weekend with a 3-4 overall record after opening the season with a 21-6 road win over Emmanuel on Jan. 30. Montevallo then went on the road to south Florida for a pair of losses at RV Embry-Riddle, 11-4, and at No. 19 Saint Leo, 24-10. Montevallo tallied its third win over a ranked opponent on Feb. 14 with a 12-8 victory over No. 20 North Greenville. Montevallo returned home for an 18-10 win over Mars Hill on Feb. 18 before falling to RV Belmont Abbey, 8-7, on Feb. 21. Most recently, Montevallo fell to No. 6 Anderson, 22-16, on Saturday, Feb. 28.
 
In Montevallo's first seven games, the Falcons average 20.43 points per game on an average of 12.57 goals and 7.86 assists per contest. The Falcons have tallied a .547 faceoff win percentage while adding 41.29 ground balls per game for the No. 6 mark in Div. II. The Falcons have also posted a .818 clearing percentage this season. On the other end of the field, Montevallo allows just 12.71 goals per game on an average of 15.86 saves per game for the No. 11 mark in Div. II. The Falcons rank second among Div. II leaders with an average of 14.71 caused turnovers per game.  
 
Matthew Boas leads the Peach Belt with a total of 23 goals on the season while adding 15 assists for a total of 38 points which also leads the league. Lucas Mullen ranks second on the squad with a total of 29 points on 14 goals and 15 assists while adding 12 ground balls through seven games. Michael Howkins has tallied a total of 16 points on 11 goals and five assists while adding 16 ground balls on the season. Collin Schuster leads the conference with a total of 14 caused turnovers this season while adding 17 ground balls and a pair of assists. Brandon Shaffner leads the league with a .627 faceoff win percentage for the No. 18 mark in Div. II while adding a team-high 41 ground balls. In goal, Alex Egorshin has posted a .574 save percentage with a an average of 15.43 saves per game for the fifth-highest mark in the NCAA.
 
Young Harris heads into tomorrow's matchup with a 2-5 overall record after opening the season with an 18-8 loss against Newberry on Feb. 4. The Mountain Lions then dropped a meeting with Thomas More, 13-10, on Feb. 7 before falling to Mars Hill, 13-10, on the road on Feb. 11. YHC picked up its first win of the season with a 16-5 win over Emory & Henry on Feb. 15 before heading out for a road loss at Lander on Feb. 20. On Feb. 23, Young Harris added a dominant 35-4 win over Shorter for its first conference win of the season before falling to Coker, 13-12, on Feb. 28.
 
Through seven games, Young Harris averages 14.14 goals per game while adding 7.14 assists for a total of 21.29 points per game. The Mountain Lions have tallied a .463 faceoff win percentage with an average of 31.71 ground balls per game and adding a .868 clearing percentage. Defensively, Young Harris allows 12.43 goals per game on an average of 10.29 saves per game while adding an average of 12.00 caused turnovers per game.
 
Grady Stokes leads the team with a total of 27 points with 11 goals and a team-high 16 assists while adding a total of 17 ground balls on the season. Colburn Connelly and Gunnar Fagerstrom each have tallied a total of 12 goals while Connelly adds five assists and Fagerstrom posting three on the season. Taiden Makubire leads the team with a total of 22 ground balls on the season while also adding a team-high 16 caused turnovers. In the net, Jonah Polhems has posted a .481 save percentage with 51 totals saves and a 12.45 goals against average.
