HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team captured a road series win over No. 25 UAH, after earning a dominant 8-1 victory in the rubber match on Saturday.
Taylor Lloyd (13-2) earned her second complete game victory of the weekend, allowing one run in seven innings of action. The senior recorded seven strikeouts.
Montevallo looked to strike first in the top of the third, as Lillie Piersol and Taylor Rogers opened the inning with back-to-back singles. After a pair of outs, Becca Benton and Makayla Peters provided RBI-singles to score Piersol and Rogers, putting the Falcons on the board first, 2-0.
The Falcons added another run in the top of the fourth, as Rogers hit an RBI-double to score Madison Fargo, stretching the lead to 3-0. UAH looked to respond, putting a pair of runners on base, but Lloyd forced a popout to keep the Chargers off the board.
Montevallo tacked on another run in the top of the fifth, as a Riley Tyree sac-fly scored Laney Williams, extending the lead to 4-0. UAH put a pair of runners on in the bottom half of the inning, but Lloyd ended the threat once again, this time using a strikeout to keep UAH off the board.
Montevallo continued to push in the top of the sixth, as RBIs from Rogers and Hawkins gave the Falcons a six-run advantage. Hawkins later scored on a fielder's choice and Peyton Hull scored on a wild pitch to extend the Montevallo lead to, 8-0.
The Chargers scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth, as Montevallo went on to secure the, 8-1, victory.
