Johnson, Fails Set for NCAA Outdoor Championships on Friday

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo's Christopher Johnson and Jeremiah Fails are set to compete in the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday in Emporia, Kan.

Johnson will compete in the Discus Throw at 1:30 p.m. CST, while Fails competes in the 200m preliminary rounds at 5:30 p.m. The 200m finals will take place on Saturday at 6:10 p.m.

Johnson holds the seventh best discus throw in DII, with a distance of 56.43m. The Northport, Ala., native has rewritten the Montevallo record book this outdoor season, posting the top five discus throw marks and the top three hammer throw marks in school history. A consistent standout throughout the year, Johnson earned GSC Field Athlete of the Week honors three times. He finished the outdoor season with three podium finishes at the GSC Outdoor Championships, earning First Team All-GSC honors in discus and Second Team All-GSC recognition in Hammer Throw. Johnson also made an impact during the indoor season, breaking the school record in the Weight Throw.

Fails is tied for the 13th best 200m time in DII, with a 20.75. The Birmingham, Ala., native has cemented himself among the top sprinters in Montevallo history this season, recording the top six times in the 200m and the top six times in the 100m in school history. He also contributed to school-record performances in both the 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay. Fails earned GSC Track Athlete of the Week honors twice during the season and played a key role in four podium finishes at the GSC Outdoor Championships. He received First Team All-GSC recognition in the 100m and 4x100m relay, while also earning Second Team All-GSC honors in the 200m and long jump. He also made an impact during the indoor season, earning Second Team All-GSC honors in the long jump.
