MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team won three singles matches and two doubles matches on its way to a 5-4 win over visiting USC Aiken in a Peach Belt Conference tournament match Feb. 22.
The Falcons improved to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in Peach Belt Conference play with the victory. Montevallo's 4-1 start to the season marks the best start in the history of the women's tennis program.
Junior Niki Polcerova defeated Margot Simon of USC Aiken 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles match. Junior Anais Robert edged the Pacers' Julia Arruda 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 in the No. 3 singles match.
Sophomore Allison Howell defeated Fran Regel of USC Aiken 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 in the No. 4 singles match.
Howell and senior Haley Highfield defeated Nadine Tusiama and Shauna Williams of USC Aiken 8-6 in the No. 2 doubles match. Junior Liucija Smaizyte and sophomore Juanita Ossa edged Regel and Arruda 9-7 in the No. 3 doubles match.
Smaizyte dropped the No. 2 singles match against Tusiama, 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (forfeit). Highfield fell to Williams 5-7, 4-6 in the No. 5 singles match. Ossa dropped the No. 6 singles match against the Pacers' Victoria Jasko 1-6, 1-0 (forfeit).
Polcerova and Robert fell to Simon and Jasko 9-7 in the No. 1 doubles match.
The Falcons return to action Sunday, Feb. 23 with a Peach Belt Conference match against Lander University.
