COLUMBUS, Ga. – Facing stiff competition on day two of the Cougar Classic, the University of Montevallo softball team dropped a pair of games to Tusculum and Florida Tech.
Against Tusculum, Montevallo lost 11-3 in six innings.
Freshman Kelsey Vining had another big day in her leadoff role, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
The Plano, Texas native also stole her seventh base on the year, which is a team-best.
Freshman Dylan Bailey hit her first career home run in the contest, a solo shot to center in the top of the first.
Phoebe Dabbour, Kaitlynn Thomson, Sydney Aguilar, and Hannah McCreless each had a hit in the game.
Darbi Duke drew a walk and eventually scored.
Junior Jana Kelbie Armstrong (2-2) took the loss in the game.
In game two, the Falcons were defeated by Florida Tech, 8-0 in six innings.
Junior Jostlyn Higgerson (5-3) struck out seven in the contest, but was charged with the loss.
Celestia Davila had a hit in the game.
Montevallo (8-6) will host a doubleheader against Delta State on Wednesday, starting at 2:00 p.m.
