MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The first two conference games for the University of Montevallo softball team took place on Saturday, February 28. The Mountain Lions of Young Harris were in town to face the Falcons, and YHC was able to sweep the doubleheader, grabbing two wins from Montevallo.
In the first game, the Mountain Lions got a complete game from Darby Stanford and won 7-1. It was the sixth win of the year for Stanford.
Jostlyn Higgerson (6-6) took the loss for Montevallo, striking out six batters in her five innings in the circle.
In her leadoff role, Kelsey Vining continued her impressive freshman campaign, going 3-for-4 at the plate and stealing two more bases. She has a team-high 11 stolen bases on the season.
Lexes Wilson also had a hit for the Falcons.
Hannah McCreless had an RBI in the bottom of the seventh, plating Sydney Aguilar.
The second game would be another win for Young Harris, defeating Montevallo 12-0 in five innings.
Jeanie Perrucci, who started in left field in the first game, pitched all five innings in the second game, recording her third win of the season.
For the Falcons, Kaitlynn Thomson got a hit in the second half of the doubleheader.
Kelsey King (1-3) was the losing pitcher in the game for Montevallo.
Montevallo will continue to play conference games and will take on the visiting Francis Marion Patriots tomorrow, March 1.
The doubleheader will begin at noon at the University of Montevallo Softball Stadium at Orr Park.
