COLUMBUS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo softball fell in two games to perennial Peach Belt power Columbus State on Saturday.
The Falcons lost the first game 6-3 and the second game 8-3.
Jostlyn Higgerson (11-12) recorded the decision in each contest.
Lexes Wilson had an extra base hit in the first game, getting her fifth double of the year, which is tied for the second most doubles on the team.
Dylan Bailey and Shelby Lopez each had an RBI single.
Kelsey Vining, Jessica Mentzer, Rachael Conley, and Halie Snider also had hits for UM.
Kelsey King threw two innings without allowing a hit in relief. The junior also did not walk anyone, while striking out two Cougars.
In the second game, Mentzer hit her third home run of the season, which is tied for the team lead. Mentzer hit two home runs on Opening Day in a win against West Alabama. Mentzer also had an RBI after a bases loaded walk.
Wilson went 2-for-4 in the game, adding to her double from game number one.
Hannah McCreless was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and recorded an RBI single in the top of the fourth.
King was again impressive for UM, allowing just a single run in four innings in the circle.
Montevallo will be back at home on Tuesday, March 17. They will face Birmingham Southern College at 5 p.m. in a "Pink Game" that will raise awareness for breast cancer.
