MONTEVALLO, Ala. - Facing the University of North Alabama Lions, a team that came into the doubleheader with a record of 14-1, the University of Montevallo softball team dropped a pair of games Wednesday evening.
The Lions earned an 11-0 victory in five innings in the first game.
In the first game, Jostlyn Higgerson (8-7) got the start and took the loss. She recorded a strikeout in 3 1/3 innings pitched.
Sydney Aguilar reached base in both of her plate appearances, recording a single and drawing a walk.
Sydney Abounassar also had a hit in the contest.
Kelsey Vining stole her 15th base of the year in the game. Her 15 stolen bases are the most in the Peach Belt Conference.
In the second game, the Lions defeated UM, 5-0.
Higgerson (8-8) again got the start. She improved upon her first game, holding the potent Lion offense to just four runs and recording two strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings pitched.
Shelby Lopez had an impressive performance in the nightcap, catching a base stealer and recording two hits.
Kaitlynn Thomson went 1-for-1 in a pinch hitting role.
The Falcons' defense turned three double plays in the game.
Montevallo returns to Peach Belt play this weekend, traveling to Lander University and USC Aiken.
