AIKEN, S. C. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team fell on the road at USC Aiken 6-3 in a Peach Belt Conference contest April 11.
The Falcons (6-11 overall, 2-10 in Peach Belt Conference) took two of three doubles' matches against the Pacers, but USC Aiken captured five of the six singles' matches to secure the victory.
Seniors Nikola Polcerova and Anais Robert defeated the Pacers' Shauna Williams and Sarah Bernos 8-3 in the No. 1 doubles' match. Junior Allison Howell and freshman Grace-Laura Rowe topped Oliver Veskovac and Marie Habiyaremye 8-2 in the No. 2 doubles' match.
Seniors Octavia Saunders and Meagan Stevens fell to Kayla Calvert and Sabrina Tam of USC Aiken 8-2 in the No. 3 doubles' match.
Polcerova, who is ranked No. 5 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II Southeast Region singles' rankings, recorded the lone singles' victory for the Falcons after Williams retired early from the No. 1 singles' match facing a 4-2 deficit in the second set. Polcerova won the opening set, 6-3.
Howell fell to Bernos 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 2 singles' match. Robert dropped the No. 3 singles' match against Veskovac 6-1, 6-2.
Stevens retired early in the No. 4 singles' match against Calvert facing a 3-0 deficit in the first set. Saunders fell to Habiyaremye 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 5 singles' match. Rowe fell to Tam 1-6, 6-4, 10-6 in the No. 6 singles' match.
The Falcons will return to action Sunday, April 12 with a Peach Belt Conference match at Lander University.
