HOW IT HAPPENED
Montevallo knocked off nationally-ranked Indianapolis 4-2 in its first game on the second day of the Music City Invitational before defeating Lindenwood 4-1 in the nightcap.
The Falcons took a 1-0 lead against Indianapolis, which entered the contest ranked No. 19 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) NCAA Division II poll, in the top of the first inning when freshman Holly LaForce reached on a leadoff walk before scoring on a RBI single by junior Dylan Bailey.
Montevallo pushed its lead to 3-0 with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning. Junior Darbi Duke led off with an infield single before scoring on a RBI single by LaForce and freshman Haley Barnette, who reached on a walk, scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by junior Kelsey Vining.
The Falcons scored their final run on a double steal in the top of the fourth inning. Barnette, who led off the frame with a single, scored when Vining took second later in the frame.
Sophomore Abbey Pratt registered six strikeouts and got the complete-game victory.
Montevallo plated three runs on a pair of homers in the top of the third inning in the nightcap against Lindenwood to take a 3-0 lead. Junior Dylan Bailey reached on a double down the left-field line before scoring on a two-run homer by Barnette. Sophomore Lady Sarah Federico blasted a solo shot to left-center field for the final run in the frame.
The Falcons scored their final run in the top of the sixth inning when sophomore Kendra Buckley led off with a single through the left side of the infield before scoring on an error by the Lions.
Senior Jocelyn Rivera recorded five strikeouts and earned the complete-game win.

Montevallo pitchers allowed just eight hits combined in the sweep of Indianapolis and Lindenwood.

The Falcons will close out the Magic City Invitational with a pair of games Sunday, February 19 at Drakes Creek Park in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Montevallo will face Saginaw Valley State at 10 a.m. before wrapping up the event against Bellarmine at 12 p.m.
