MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team saw a record-setting season come to an end following a 7-2 setback against visiting USC Aiken in its final match in Peach Belt Conference play April 15.
The Falcons finished the season with a program-best 16 victories as Montevallo posted a 16-9 overall mark and a 4-8 mark in Peach Belt Conference play.
Sophomore Alina Munteanu also set a pair of records in the final match of the season. Munteanu, who became the Falcons' first ever nationally-ranked player, surpassed her own previous school record with a program record with 21 victories in singles' play and tied the program record for doubles' wins in a season with her 18th win.
Munteanu defeated Olivera Veskovac of USC Aiken 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles' match. The Bacau, Romania native also teamed up with freshman Merel Van Zutphen to defeat the Pacers' Kayla Calvert and Brigitta Mirak 8-5 in the No. 2 doubles' match.
The Pacers won five of six singles' matches and two of three doubles' matches to claim the 7-2 win.
