MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS
· Senior Kelsey Vining paced the Falcons offensively as she finished 2-for-3 at the plate, driving in two runs and scoring one run.
· Senior Darbi Duke, who drove in one run and scored one run, went 2-for-4 at the plate.
· Freshman Carlee Mullinax finished 1-for-3 at the plate and drove in one run.
· Sophomore Brianna Stella went 1-for-4 at the plate.
· Sophomore Marisa Sosa entered late in the game as a pinch hitter and finished 1-for-1 at the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when senior Kelsey Vining reached on a walk before scoring on a RBI single to left field by freshman Carlee Mullinax.
· Valdosta State scored a run in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game 1-1.
· The Blazers scored four more runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 5-1 lead.
· Montevallo trimmed the deficit to 5-2 in the top of the third inning when senior Darbi Duke reached on a single up the middle before scoring on a RBI double to left-center field by Vining.
· Valdosta State extended its lead to 6-2 with a run in the bottom of the third inning.
· The Falcons trimmed the deficit to 6-4 in the top of the fourth inning when sophomore Haley Barnette, who was hit by a pitch, scored on a RBI single to left field by Duke and senior Celestia Davila, who reached on an error, scored on a RBI single through the right side by Vining.
· The Blazers plated their final run in the bottom of the sixth inning to push their lead to 7-4.
