Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — Less than 24 hours after being held to only one run, the University of Montevallo bounced back with a 10-1 five-inning win over Georgia College on Sunday afternoon.
Brianna Stella got the game started by drawing a walk, then stealing second before coming around to score on a single by
Mariel Bertossi, who was the game's second batter.
After Bertossi stole second and
Haley Barnette was hit by a pitch,
Carlee Mullinax singled home Bertossi to make it 2-0, Falcons. Following Barnette's steal of third, she scored on a single from
Sierra Easterwood to force a Georgia College pitching change.
A wild pitch advanced both Mullinax and Easterwood, then Mullinax scored on an
Alexis Cortez hit.
Annie Adamos made it 5-0, UM, with a run-scoring hit, before
Holly LaForce brought home
Monet Milligan. LaForce scored on a fielding error off the bat of Stella.
After more Georgia College substitutions, Bertossi single to put two runners on for Barnette, who tripled to centerfield and ballooned the score to 9-0 with only one out. Mullinax made it 10-0 with a single to plate Barnette. The Falcons threatened for more runs when they loaded the bases with two outs, but a strikeout ended the attempt.
Georgia College responded in the bottom half of the first with a one-out, run-scoring sacrifice bunt.
From there, Georgia College managed only one hit throughout the rest of the game – a one-out single in the bottom of the second – while Montevallo added three — a leadoff triple in the third, a two-out single the same inning and then a leadoff single to start the fourth.
Montevallo (1-1) returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 4 with a doubleheader against Clark Atlanta starting at 3 p.m.
