BIRMINGHAM,Ala. - The University of Montevallo track and field program took part in the Samford Multi, on Friday and Saturday, turning in multiple notable performances during the event.  The Falcon's were slated against talented NCAA Division I programs such as Samford, UAB, South Alabama, Kennesaw State, Troy, Arkansas State, Lipscomb, and Louisiana Monroe.

"We are growing and getting better meet by meet, everyone is putting their best foot forward.  I think overall, the attitude is we are thankful for being able to compete again so we are going all out in every meet because we don't know how long it is going to last," remarked assistant coach Austin Billings.  

In the pentathlon, sophomore Madelyn Bright finished 12th out of 20 competing in a NCAA Division I field of competition.  The Louisville, Mississippi native submitted a new personal best in every event and broke her own Montevallo record in the high jump. 

"Madelyn Bright was a big standout, she PR'd in every event in the pentathlon as well as her overall score.  She also rebroke her own high jump record, which was a school record so overall her standout performance was a landmark for the women's program."

Caleb Long led Montevallo in the heptathlon placing fourth with a PR of 4423 points, which is only 52 points shy of Brandon Farrish's 2015 record (4,475).


Other Falcon's who competed at a PR level were Nate Boleware who had the next highest UM finish in the heptathlon, notching 3909 to secure 14th place.  Micah Flores also completed his best heptathlon, with a 3823 point score to place 15th.  

NEXT UP: The Falcons will be back in action at the Birmingham Crossplex, taking on the Samford Open on Saturday, January 23rd.   Additionally, due to the COVID-19 pandemic spectators will not be permitted to enter the facility.
