Box Score MADISONVILLE, Texas— The University of Montevallo softball team was defeated by No. 4 University of Texas at Tyler 10-3 on Saturday afternoon. UM is now 0-4 on the year after the weekend trip to Texas.
Much like Friday's game, the Falcons got going early.
Mariel Bertossi got a leadoff double to put UM in scoring position right off the bat.
Hannah Carey doubled up the middle with one out to send Bertossi home and get Montevallo on the board. Carey then scored on an error to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first.
UT Tyler earned one back in the bottom of the first to cut the UM lead to one. The Patriots then forced Montevallo into a one-two-three inning in the top of the second before scoring three more runs in their second turn at the plate.
UM cut the lead to one in the top of the fourth thanks to a
Sawyer Martin double down the left field line that brought
Holly LaForce Henderson across home plate to make it a 4-3 game. UT Tyler responded by scoring three more runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth, all while holding the Falcons scoreless over the final three frames, to claim the 10-3 win.
Carey led UM at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Bertossi went 1-for-4 with a run. Martin batted 1-for-3 and also scored a run.
Lauren Higginbotham was the only other Falcon to record a hit, going 1-for-4.
Marby Norris started in the circle for Montevallo today, giving up seven earned runs on three hits while striking out one in 3.1 innings of work.
Brooke Ingram pitched 1.2 innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits.
Madison Morgan was the final Falcon to step on the rubber, allowing one earned run off of two hits in one complete inning of work.
