UM skates past Miles in Tuesday DH

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MONTEVALLO, Ala. - On a sun-splashed February afternoon, the Montevallo Falcons swept a doubleheader over Miles College in two eight run rule games.  The Falcons took game one 10-2 and followed that victory with a 12-0 win in game two. 

The Falcons were able to get ample production from the plate and two fine performances in the circle.   Mychael McMillan and Sierra Easterwood both tossed complete games and 14 different Falcons recorded hits on the day. 

"It was a total team effort today," said Head Coach Lindsay Vanover.  "Every player on the roster got an opportunity to play and be involved in two quality wins.  It was nice to see the team settle in and make plays at the plate and in the field."
 
Game One
 
Montevallo scored ten runs on 11 hits with eight different Falcons recording a hit in a 10-2 five-inning game.   Junior Mychael McMillan pitched five innings giving up two runs (one earned run) and striking out ten.   

The Falcons scored five runs in the second inning, added two runs in the third, one in the fourth and finished the game with two in the fifth to make it an eight-run margin.  Junior Carlee Mullinax, Freshmen Lauren Higginbotham and Avery Witten led the Falcons with two hits apiece. 

Witten hit her first career home run for the Falcons with a solo shot to right center field in the fourth.   Graduate Student Holly LaForce Henderson added one hit and led the team with three RBI's.       
 
Game Two
 
Junior Sierra Easterwood put on the show both on the mound and at the plate as the Falcons defeated Miles College 12-0 in a five-inning game.   Easterwood pitched a one hit, five inning complete game facing 17 hitters, striking out six and hitting one batter.  

At the plate Sierra was 3-4 with a double, three RBI's and scored one run.   Fallon Groves and Mariel Bertossi had two hits as nine different Falcon hitters recorded a hit. 

Montevallo scored two runs in both the first and second inning then broke the game open in the fourth with eight runs on nine hits.  Groves and Bertossi both had two hits in the inning.
 
UP NEXT: The Falcons (1-2 in GSC) hit the road on Friday as they travel to Jackson, Tennessee to face Union (0-3 in GSC) on Saturday and Sunday for a three-game series.   The doubleheader starts on Saturday at 3:00 pm and a single game Sunday at 1:00 pm.
