Box Score 2 MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Montevallo softball team beat Columbus State in both games of Wednesday's double header at Orr Park. The Falcons took the first game 6-5 and won game two 8-2.
Montevallo stole the lead in the bottom of the sixth after a major half inning for Columbus State behind the plate, putting in three runs on back to back homers from the Cougars.
The Falcons had ten hits on the day including a
Holly LaForce Henderson homerun in the fifth.
Kaylee Hawkins was the winning pitcher for UM, going two and one third innings and allowed three runs on two hits with five strikeouts.
Mychael McMillan re-entered the circle to earn the save, recording the last three outs to help ensure the Montevallo win.
"As a team we commit to playing seven innings, not one or two innings, and so we had all seven which helped us pull through and have a win," stated head coach Lindsay Vanover. " As a group it doesn't matter who's not on for the day, somebody has got your back."
The Falcon's carried the momentum from the game one win into game two.
Montevallo had a big second inning as the Falcons sent home 5 runs for an early lead over Columbus State.
Mariel Bertossi was dominant at the plate for UM as she drove in multiple runs on a homer in the second inning.
Sierra Easterwood also sent one to the parking lot in the second inning to give the Falcons a comfortable 5-1 lead.
Bertossi went yard again in the fourth to add more runs to the scoreboard for Montevallo.
The Falcons totaled nine hits in game two and did not commit a single error in the field.
Sierra Easterwood earned the win in the circle surrendering two runs on seven hits over three and two thirds innings, with three strikeouts.
Madison Morgan and
Kaitlyn Flugga both made appearances to give Easterwood relief, helping to close out the win for UM.
