After an unconventional spring in the athletics world, it's time to find a glint of normalcy with the kick off the Fall 2021 seasons. All four UM Falcons fall sports teams pop the cork on new campaigns, embarking on their quests for championships. Here's the rundown of the opening week in Montevallo Athletics!

Men's Soccer
After winning a pair of tune-up scrimmages during the preseason, the Falcons kick off the season at home against Lincoln Memorial on Thursday, Sept 2 at the Varsity Soccer Field. LMU finished the abbreviated spring schedule at 4-5. Meanwhile, in 2019, the Railsplitters were 6-8-3. On Saturday, Sept. 4, the Falcons welcome Florida Southern College to town. Game time is set for 1 p.m. The Mocs finished the 2019 season at 5-6-5. The last time the two teams tangled, it was the season opener of 2019 in a match that ended in a scoreless draw. 

Women's Soccer
The Montevallo women's soccer team opens the 2021 season at home on Sunday, Sept. 5 against Florida Tech. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 3:30 p.m. at the Varsity Soccer Field. The Falcons are coming off of a speculator season in 2019, finishing 14-4-1, capturing the Gulf South Conference tournament title and advancing to the NCAA South Region playoffs. In the COVID-shortened spring of 2021, the Falcons had a 5-3-1 record. The Falcons enter the season as the preseason No. 3 selection in the GSC. Florida Tech played six games in the spring, winning three and tying two. It was tough sledding for the Panthers in 2019 as they finished with a 3-11-2 record. 

Volleyball
The Falcons volleyball team will open the season on the road at the the Union University Volleyball Classic in Jackson, Tenn. The Falcons will play in four games over the weekend. On Friday, UM plays against Lane College and Truman State, then faces Lindenwood and Florida Tech on Saturday. The Falcons, who were picked 3rd in the GSC preseason coach's poll, rolled through the spring, sweeping their way to a 12-0 record before falling in the final match of the GSC Spring Championship Series volleyball tournament. During the fall of 2019, the Falcons advanced to the second round of the GSC tournament before being eliminated. They would finish the season at 19-14. 

Cross Country
The UM Cross Country teams travel to Memphis, Tenn. this weekend to take the course at the Brooks Memphis Twilight in Memphis on Saturday, Sept. 4. Both teams have been picked to finish 4th by the GSC coaches.
