Montevallo golf spring season outlook

MONTEVALLO - The UM golf program kicked off the 2022 Spring schedule this past weekend as the women's team took on the Flagler University World Golf Invitational where the Falcons placed 11th.  The men's team is set to begin their season in Harrogate, Tenn. for the Lincoln Memorial Spring Kickoff.  The event is set for Sunday, February 13th and will carry on until Tuesday, February 15th

This Spring the men's team will partake in the Lincoln Memorial University Spring Kickoff, the GSW Hurricane Invitational, the CBU Buccaneer Spring Classic, and the West Florida Argonaut Invitational before challenging the conference at the GSC Tournament starting Friday, April 15th in Mobile, Ala.

The men's team completed a successful fall run that built momentum heading into the spring.  The Falcons took first place at the Full Moon Invite where top returners Noah Dennis and Greg Jones tied each other for the individual first place finish.  The men finished third at the Jenison Cup, fourth at the Matt Dyas Invite, and fifth at the Super Region Preview.  The Falcons also made their way on to the Golfstat Top 25 poll at No.16.

Head coach Justin Pratt noted, "We need to have a more consistent spring. It's how you play against who you play in college golf. We have several strong tournaments where we can improve our ranking by playing well and getting some big wins against strong teams. I would love to see a consistent spring with how we perform leading into our conference championship where anything can happen with the talent in GSC."

After a solid start to the Spring slate at the Flagler World Golf Invite, the women's team is set to compete at the Rollins Peggy Kirk Bell Memorial Invitational, the Union University Spring Bulldog Bash, and the Argonaut Invitational, before the season finale at the GSC Tournament.

"I really want to see us keep improving individually in areas that we discuss with each player and focus on in practice. If each player makes little improvements then as a team we will be playing well later this spring. We have a young team so watching the growth as a team and individually is going to be fun to watch over the next few years," said Pratt.  "I would love for this team to put themselves in a position by improving throughout the spring to be in the mix and have a chance to win with a good round on the final day of our conference tournament at the end of the year".

The Falcons experienced a lot of success during the fall season of competition.  The women's team saw consistency from their small group of returners and gained abundant impact from newcomers.  Freshman Anne-Lin Fjaervick was named Freshman of the Month by the GSC after she helped the Falcons to a first-place finish in her collegiate debut at the Full Moon Invitational (Sept. 13-14), as she placed second with a two-round score of 144 (71-73). The  Sarpsborg, Norway native was the highest finisher for Montevallo at the Savannah Lakes Ladies Classic (Sept. 27-28) placing eighth with a 3-over-par (147).

Overall, the UM golf program looks to continue to excel on the course and establish themselves as a competitive unit that other teams will have to work hard to try and get past.
