BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- With the Gulf South Conference Track & Field Championships coming up the first weekend in May, the Montevallo track and field teams got a chance to sharpen up with one final event on the schedule, competing at the UAB Green and Gold Invitational and Multi over the weekend.
Several UM men's competitors had notable performances. Among those was
Micah Flores who finished fifth in the Decathlon. In the event, he won the javelin, tied for third in the pole vault, and captured third place in the 1500m dash. Other top performers included
Bill Archer, who finished fourth in the steeplechase (10:09.19),
Joshua Pruitt and
Caleb Kariuki with fourth and fifth place finished respectively in the triple jump and the 4x400m relay team who crossed the finish line third.
"We had a very solid meet," said Montevallo track and field coach
Tommy Barksdale. "We had improvements across the board. We have a few loose ends to tie up before the conference championships."
